Manraia, May 11.—Tha ateamer Oh**/, from below, bring* important new* re garding the overflow of the Miaaiaaippi .river. At nine e'oloek yeaterday morning tha levee in front of Friar'* Point, on tha Miaaiaaippi, broke. At Maynard'* the orevaaao ia 100 yard* wide; and at Mil lar’* the orevaaao ie 60 yards wide. The water outside the levee ia folly five feet above tbe level inside, and the water is pouring through in an immenaa volume, defying all attempt* to check it and soon inundated the town and surrounding oountry. Tba erevaaaee will inundate very large and rioh seotions of eotton land*. The St. Franoi* rivar wa* station ary yesterday, and the levee at'Helena, on the Arkanaaa aide etill held good. About two thousand hauJa are engaged in strengthening it, but tbe river had made a cut-off yeaterday at Caunel Band, out- ting off some fourteen mil**, and in con. sequence tbe river ia riaing below the cut off at the rate of on* inoh par boor. New Yoee, May 11.—A Little Book speeial, dated last evening, contains the following: “Two negroes were klHed by Baxter's pickets, near the Fair Grounds, yesterday morning. On the afternoon several skirmishers advanced to the street, and joined Bax- ten piokata, when the officer in command ordered all the citixens to their homes end the soldiers to their quarters. The regulars kept oloee at their barricades. A fight was expected at any time during the afternoon or evening. The rear two oom. panies of regulars are at the City Hall, on* at the United States Court building, and the artillery, with home* harnessed, on e aid* street. The regulars have four barricade* in the eity and on* on the op posite side of the river. Order* were loaned by all parties yesterday afternoon for the soldiers to go to quarters and the citixens to keep in their booses. In tbe evening Col. Eli Baxter, Little Book : I recommend that the members of the General Assembly'now at Little Bock ad journ tor a reasonable time, to enable Brooks to oall to the body his supposed adherent*, so that there may be a full Legislature. Any hasty action by a part of tbe Assembly will not ba satisfactory to tbe people. Brooks' friende her* agree that if this oouree it pursued no opposi tion will be mad* to the meeting of the Assembly.
