In 1844, the school waa in a flourishing
condition under Bro. B. N. B. Bardweli,
aa Superintendent.
During the next decade the sobool waa
very proeperoos onder Bros. Bardweli,
L. D. Minter and Wm. L. Jeter ; which
brings the record to 1886, when a power
ful impotus waa given to tho work.
In that year there were five well organ
ised Sunday Schools. St. Luke’s number
ed 175 sobolars and teaobers, with that

Waaley Chapel then had 115 members
with J. L. Howell as presiding officer.
The aohool was formed several years be
fore. Next same MoKendree Mission,

Clapp’s Factory, with a roll of 70 odd,
D. Boland being Superintendent. There
was Pierce Chapel, now extinot,
continued to the close of the war, when
by transfer the property passed into other
hands. It waa organised by Bev. Mr.
Shea in 1861-'2. Mr. T. J. Jackson was
elected Superintendent and held that posi
tion until 1806. The aohool at one time
numbered 225 teachers aod sobolars.
Girard school waa organised abont tho

perintendent Bev. David Young, with 58
teachers and pupil*. Bealleood sobool
waa preaidsd over by Bev. M. Woodruff.
In addition there was a colored school at
tha briok ohuroh on the East Commons,
in ohargo of Bev. J. H. Harris, mission
ary to the blacks.

In 1856 Colonel J. M. Chambers was
superintendent; he was succeeded in
1858 by Colons! P. H. Colquitt, who held
the office two or three years. Until 1866
the office was filled by the pastors sueoer-
aively—Bev. H. H. Parks and Dr. W. P.
Harrison—after whioh it was held by W.
H. Chambers. In 1869 Bev. J. M. Wright
was elected superintendent, who, after a
abort time, was succeeded by Mr. J. A,
Fraser, with A. M. Brannon aa assistant—
the present offioera. The sobool now
numbers 2 superintendents, 2 librarians,
a secretary, treasurer, 80 teachers and 276
pupils. Abont fifteen per cent, have been
admitted to the ohuroh.
ST. PAULlS SCHOOL
was organised in the winter of 1859, with
eighty-sight members, and W. 0. Hodges,
afterwards Colonel of the 17th Georgia
Begiment, as Superintendent, which post
he held until the breaking out of the war.
The assistant was A. O. Flewellen, who
beoama Superintendent. He waa auo-
needed by Mr. W. L. Sherman, and next
oame Mr. B. G. Glenn, the present offl.
oer. The record shows one hundred and
seventy-five pupils end teaobers, an aver
age proportion of whom are members of
the church.
In farmer years St. Paul contributed
largely to Beallwood sobool.

was organised in 1850, with one hundred
persona, and in five or six years wss aug
mented fifty per oeat., and just prior to
the war numbered two hundred. Mr. J.
L. Howell waa the first Superintendent,
and Mr. A. D. Merchant ia the present
offioer. The list of Superintendents has
not been furnished. Wesley Chapel be
ing used for e hospital, the sohool was
disbanded during the war, re-organised
afterwards, and in 1872 numbered again
two hundred.
In 1872 Trinity Ohuroh, Brownsville,
was organised. This and ths Baptiat
Sunday-school in the same village re
duced Broad Street Church to 75. It
waa forms! in 1851«1888. Mr. O. A.

The underiigncd propaet to publish, in a
volume tf ISO or more pages, a work under
(he above title, covering the period from the
selection qf the locality fora " trading town,”
in 1827, to the capture and partial destruction
<f the city by the Wilson Raid, in 1865.
The incidents will be derived mainly from its
newspapers, which will be gleaned for thie
purpose with much care. It ie believed that
most of our citizens would like to have such
incidents in this compact and convenient form,
and will encourage the undertaking to the
extent of the email amount asked for the work.
Each chapter will contain short biographi
cal sketches or notices of the principal citizens
mentioned in it, who have since died. The
volume will also embrace full information
concerning the churches, factories, rfr., now
existing.
We dn not propose to publish this compila
tion with a view to making money, as the
mall price asked for it will show. Rut at
the same lime we do not want to lose money
by He publication, and therefore we wieh to
limit the number tf copies printed to the de
mand for the work. With this object in view,
we issue this prospectus, inviting those who
desire copies if the volume to send in their
mes.
The price will be one dollar per copy for
a pamphlet bound volume, printed on paper
like the specimen sheet issued. A email
number of copies will also be issued on a su
perior article <f paper for $1 30 per copy.
Payable when the work io delivered, which
will be some time next Fall.
