On a Strike.
A telegram rouoivod from Atlanta yes

Herald office, of that city, are on a strike

The Chain Hang.
This body, numbering eight persons
seven blacks and oue white—were at work
in Broad street yesterday. They
drossod in striped clothes, and woar brace
lets on their aakles uonneotod by a chain.
Trade Deriving,
It may do tho disconsolate and the
gloomy talkers good to know a trade was
effected yesterday. A little colored girl
swapped a stub pencil with a little white
boy for a bag with a quantity of holes in it
Too Much of a Bad Thing.
Boys, both white and black, are too

They do not stop for passors-by, no mat

York for Liverpool. Col. Tift goes over
iu a short time, and the goutlemen will
visit Germany.
Colored School doted,
Claflin Academy closod its exercises
yesterday for the term. The average
number of pupils was sixty-fivo to soveu
ty, and evince much progress. The school
has been instructed by two white female
and oue colored male teacher. Tuition is
oue dollar a mouth. Tho odifleo
built by the Uuited States Government
and placed under tho ohnrgo of trustees
who are residents of Oolniubus.
JOHN KINO BANKRUPTCY CAME.
There were no new developments yes
terday. A good many parties voted who
had not done so. The objections, Ac.,
on either aide will be made this morning
before Register Downing, and then the
matter will be carried for decision to
Jndgo Erskine. To Tuesday night the
total vote for trustees was $17(1,185 with
the 20 por cent, off; those for Maj. Moses
$29,0G<» with the 20 per cent. on. More
votes were cast for trustees yesterday.
Major Moses objects, it is understood, to
any parties voting for trustees who have
received the 20 per cent., unless they will
pay it back, on the ground that they
have been preferred. On the other hand
.the present assignees object to several
claims voted by Major Moses because,
they allege. Mr. King does not owe
the money. Thus they say Major Moses
voted $5,100 for Charles Coleman, Re
ceiver of the Oil Mills, when the estab
lishment owes Mr. King $2500. To-day,
also, it is probable Major Moses will ex
amine some of the 20 per cent, receivers,

The North A South Railroad.
In conversation yesterday, Gov. Hmitli
said the two roads of which the State has
taken charge for failure to meet the inter
est on bonds—the Macon A Brunswick snd
the North A South railroads—are making
expenses. He has hopes be will be able
to sell them both next winter. It requires
six months’ notioe to dispose of them.
While openly declaring that not a cent
from the treasury will go to the road, he
[‘Utortnins the idea that the parties buying
may effeot some arrangement by which
tho North A South may be continued to
Ladrango. He had no doubt but that the
right of way would be paid for from tho
earnings.

llandtomc Drill.
The Columbus Guards made a hand-
somo turn-out last afternoon. A much
largor number of members would have
attended, hut showers were falling just
previous to the assembling at the armory,
and the prospect was brilliant for more.
Tho company immediately proceeded to
tho street iu front of Slndoville Hall, and
thoro had a splendid drill. For the first
tiino the organization appeared in white
pants. This in contrast with the red jack
ots and white cross-straps, created an
admirable effect.
Intereeting to Military Companiee,
Tho following prizes havo been offered
at tho next State Fair tn Atlanta : For
the beat drilled volunteer company, of
not loss than forty members, rank and

ing thut a largo excursion of colored peo
ple from Atlanta will visit this place on
tho 25th, and remain three days. The
round lickots are put down at three dol
lars, uud board in Columbus at a dollar

of some speculating darkies, who want to
make a pile of mouey. We may expeot

bring very little money.

Tonic, anp Mandbaki Pills.—These medicines
have undoubtedly performed more cures of
Consumption than any other remedy known to
the American public. They are compounded of
vegetable ingredients, and contain nothing which
cap bo injurious to tho human constitution. Other
romedie# advertised as cares for Consumption
probnbly contain opium, which is a somewhat
dangerous drug in all cases, and if taken freely hy
consumptive pntionts. It must do great Injury; for
its tendency is to confin* tho mcrbld matter in
the system, which, of course, must make a cure
impossible. Schenek's Pulmonic Syrup is war
ranted not to contain n particle of opium; It Is
composed of powerful but harmless herbs, which
act on the lungs, liver, stomach and blood, and
thus correct all morbid secretions, and expel all
the diseased matter from tho body. These are the
only me.ins by which Consumption can be cured,
