underneath was also full. The fire alarm
was immediately sounded, and an im

Syracuse, N. Y., June 24.—The falling
churoh floor eorreoted list of killed is

The accident was caused by the giving
way of the joist that supported the floor.
The joist run from both sides of the
room to a oross stringer, the middle of
which was supported by iron rods from
the roof. The stringer gave way, polling
the coiliug and roof down upon the peo
ple and precipitating them in the room
below. The work of reoovery was ex
ceedingly slow, as it had to be! done in
tho dark, and it was feared every moment

Syracuse, N. Y., June 24.—The Cen
tral Baptist Church disaster proves to
have been folly as serious as telegraphed
kst night. The bodies of fourteen per
sons killed have been recovered, and fur
ther search this morning shows that this
is the numb )t of persons killed outright.
Several persons ere so severely injured
that they will probably die. The num
ber of minor casualties is nearly or quite
100, among them about a dozen persona
with broken limbs and ribs. The cause

TWEED TO BE RELEASED.
Nlw Yobk, Jane 24.—The subject of
consideration among lawyers is the incar
ceration of William M. Tweed. It is con
ceded that at tho expiration of one year
from the date of his incarceration, be will
have served the fall time of imprisonment
within the power of a court of justice to
inflict on him for the offense set forth in
Abe indictment upon which he. was con
victed. When the period of twelvemonths
sbt%ll .h*ye elapsed, Mr. Tweed will be
brought into court on a habeas corpus,
and it will be claimed in his behalf that
he has fully paid the utmost penalty the
titate permits to be imposed in such cases
of misdemeanor as that for whioh he was
arraigned.

From ils First Settlement in 1827, to the
Wilson Haul, in 1865, compiled by John
11. Martin.
The undersigned proposes to publish, in a
volume of 150 or more pages, a work under
the above title, covering'the period from the
selection qf the locality far a “ trading town**
in 1827, to the capture and partial destruction
of the city by the Wilson Hold, in 1806.
The incidents will be derived mainly from its
newspapers, which will be gleaned for this
purpose with much care. It is believed that
most of our citizens wpuld liffe to have such
incidents in this compact and convenient form,
and will encoxirage the undertaking to the
extent of the small amount asked fir the work
Each chapter will contain short biographic
cal sketches or notice* of the principal citizens
mentioned in it, who have since dial. The
volume will also embrace full information
concerning the churches, factories, <£■<?., now
We do not propose to publish this compila
tion with a view to making money, as the
small price asked for ft will show. Hut at
the same time we do not want to lose money
by its publication f and therefore we wish to

we issue this prospectus, invitingj those who
desire copies of the volume to send in their
names.
The price will be one dollar per copy for
a pamphlet bound volume, printed on paper
