A Touching Incident.
Our corrospondeut at Oxford furnishes
us with a report of a very toooking inei
dent, which occurred during the com
mencement exercises of Wednesday last,
the publication of which will prove inter
esting to our numerous readora:
At the closo of the oration of B. H.
Lewis, of Sparta, who carried off the
“third honor” of the graduating oJaas,
Bishop Pioroo came forward and stated
that a very important history had culmi
nated in tho speech of this young gentle
men, tho seventh sou of Kev. Josinh
Lewis, an humble and honored preacher
of the North Georgia Conference.
One after another, year by year, those
seven sous have been educated at Emory
Col lego, und every one of them havo car
ried off an “honor," two, we think, hav
ing beeu “flrat honor” men. Bishop
Pioroe challenged the production of a
similar history for any oollege in tho
oountry.
Seven sons suooeasively educated at the
same institution, and each one carrying
off one of the honors of his class, is, to
say the leust of it, a record with whioh
the most ambitious paront should be fully
satisfied. But beyond this, three of these
aoua are faithful preachers of tht Goapel,
two are devoted teachers of youth, juoth-
or, who bad entered upon the practice of
law, fell in the ranks of the Confederate
army, and the last of the seven has just
stepped forth to take his place—which
will he no humble one—in the arena of
life.
The Bishop, after making his remarka
ble statement, turned to the venerable
father of these noble sons, and in an elo
quent and tender mauuor, paid a glowing
tribute to his modest worth as a Christian
minister, and his rare fidelity to the prop
er rearing and educutiou of his exemplary
sons, during the delivery of whioh there
was hardly a dry eye iu the audience.
We never witnessed such n eoene before,

In the Baptist Chnrch have been or
ganized a mite society composed of chil
dren and larger folk. They meet every
two weeks at somo gentleman’s house,
and pass the hours in song and sooial
amusements. The object ia mainly to
raise money for missionary work, and the
little people have proved very generous.
Last year they sente student from this
section who was being ednoated for the
ministry at the Southern Baptist Theo
logical Seminary at Greenvillo, S. C., a
thirty dollar suit of clothos and fifteen
dollars in money. This yoar they are do
ing as well, while they are cultivating in
their gatherings the social qualities and
tcsthbtic enjoyments.
The Southern Baptist Convention has
recommended that eaeh Baptist family
have a mite box, and that every week a
nickel or any other amount be deposited
therein for missionary purposes. These
boxes have been brought to the church
and opened at the close of every three
months. From the way the Baptist
Church here has commenced it is expect
ed that over $200 will be raised this
year. This is more than realized by the
monthly oolleotions in public.

Sonsxcx’s Ssa Wxsn Tonic.—In the atmosphere
experienced here during the enmmer mouths, the
lethargy producod by the heat takes away the de
sire for wholesome food, and frequent perspira
tions reduce bodily energy, particularly those
suffering from the effects;of debilitating diseases.
Iu order to keep a natural healthful activity of
tho system, we must resort to artificial means.
Por this purpose Schenck'e SeaWeed Tonic is very
effectual. A few doses will create an appetite and
give fresh vigor to the enervated body. For dys
pepsia, it is invaluable. Many omiuent physicians
have doubted whether dyspepsia can bo perma
nently cored by the drugs which are generally
employed for that purpose. The 8ea W’eed Tonic
in its nature is totally different from such drugs.
It contains no corrosive minerals or acids; in fact
it assists the regnh.r operations of nature, and
•applies her deficiencies. The tonic in its nature
■o much resembles the gastric Juice that it is al
most identical with that fluid. The gastrio juice
is the natural solvent which, in a healthy condi
tion of the body, causes the food to be digested;
and when this juice is not excreted in sufficient
quantities, Indigestion, with all ita distressing
symptoms, follows. The Sea Weed Tonic performs
the dnty of the gastrio Jnioe when the latter is
deficient, fiehenck’s flea Weed Tonic sold by ail
