There are now in Columbus six first-
class and thirty-nine second-class bar
rooms. The number is considerably less
thau last year. Men somohow manage to
get liquor and keep drunk whon they

Three rather tall but very lean ones

Owing to the high price charged by

B-rpreae Wagons and Brays.
There uro now licensed twenty-four
express wagons. Last yoar there were
thirty-aeven. Of the thirty lioenaes for
two-horse drays for the last six months,
only thirteen have been renewed.
Licenses for the drays are required for six
months; so the parties make uothiug by
the failure to rouew, if they wish to do
business in the fall and winter.
The Origin.
We notice that many correspondents in
the newspapers are olaiming that caterpil
lars arc duo to tho introduction of so
many commercial fertilizers. They say
there were no oaterpillars before the wer.
True; but we had lice, rust, and boll worm
in any quantity. Farmers grumbled as
much thou as they do now.
Elegant Suit.
'The nobbiest suit we have seen this
summer was ono worn by a very stylish
gentleman from New Orleans, who was on
a short visit to Columbus. The cloth was
manufactured by the Eagle A Phenix Com
pany of this city, and bought and made
in New Orleans. The cloth was cool and
clean, aud admits of being washed like
linen.

there are no caterpillars. You always
hear of them a few miles off, where no

This religious body, which embraces
twelve charges and five thousand mem
bers in this and adjoining oounits*, meets
in 8t. Paul’s Church this morning at 9
o'clock. It is thought that Bishop Pierce
will preside. If so, hs arrived this morn

to go to California to preside over the
conference there. Among the other dis
tinguished ministers to be present ere
Dr. E. H. Myers and Prof. Bern, Presi
dent of Wesleyan Female College. They
were expected last night. The number of
delegates will probably be about one
hundred.
During the session of the conference,
which will continue until Sunday, there
will be preaching every moruing at 11
o'clock in St. Paul’s Church, and in 8L
Luke’s each night at 8 o'clock. Last night
there was preaching in tb# latter church.

Arrangements have been made for the
accommodation of all who may come.
Quite a number of delegates came io last
