Editor Enquirer-Sun :—k “Georgia
ersoksr" in Saratoga is nolhing now.
Yet s few tines from on* ms/ be of in
terest to some of yonr lender*. Ssrstogs
being one of ths notions! watering
plsoea, of sons* there is slwa/s
something in it interesting. Here
t|m notables and setebrttisa of the
nation do most congregate. Th* Presi
dent left jnet before my arrival. Bat I
found the Vise-President, Ben Batler
and a host of equal and lesser lights in
notoriety still here. I ha** had a good
look at Wilson and Bntler—my first sight.
From ssrioatnres I have assn of Bntler, I
expected to see a man of a terribly *11-
laiooos cast of features—one look at him
MM f«M*nt to cans* as involuntary
feeUngtor yonr pocket-book, and a desire
to get one’s self in a aeenrspiaee. Bnt in
stead, I saw a gentlemanly-dress I d aw,
medium stature, rather thiek sat, with a
face not objeotionable axeept the took in
his eyas. With large asonth, heavy
jaw, and, It I had met him
without knowing ha was tbs “veritable
Hen," 1 sbonld have rather liked
him than otherwise. Be has * good-na
tured, sooial way—baa a large aoqnaint-
anoe, I should say, by the number of
greetings. Ha ia always th* centre of a
crowd and appears to be the life of it
After studying him for three days, I must
say, that I do not think, from my know-
edge of phyatogneny “that th* D 1
ean be as black at he is painted."
Bert, Mr. Wilson, th* Vise President,
1 da not think, oarries half as good a fee*
as butler. Thera ia a sunning in his little
biask eyas tfiat is far from pleasant. Be
sides, h* baa a selfish look that ia not
agfeeable. I have seen the Hon. John
garriaay, but he is anah a hard-looking
ease that I'l not attempt a daaerlption.
He U, no doubt, tne head and front of
Saratoga, especially of sporting, Saratoga
—and nearly all Saratoga ia sporting.
The assn go for th* tlgar, rase* and regat
tas ; th* women ean't reaeh the tiger, but
the races' and regatta* find a good deal of
their privata monay.
The favorite mode of betting on the
rasas bera is by what is sailed “French
pool," which I will deaeribs as best I oan
W* will say three horses are entered for a
race. Each hors* haa a number Jones
300, B.'own 301, Smith 802. Tickets are
worth $5. You oan select yonr horse.
Suppose when the mo* is called the sales
of tickets at* as follow* t
Jo OSS, No 500, 50 ticket*, $5, $ 86000
Brown, “ 801, 100 “ $5, 600 00
Smith, “ 303, 300 “ $5, 1,000 00
Total $1,760 00
The pool sellar iu entitled to 6
percent - 87 60
$1,603 60
Leaving the pool worth 1,068 60
Now, if No. 300 wins the rase the pool
is divided by th* 60 tickets, netting each
ticket $38.37. But if 808 win* the race
the $1,668.00 .would have to be divided
by 200, netting each tieket only $8.31
This is French pool, whioh is daily gain
ing favor in Atueriean sporting oiroles.
The fashionable part of Saratoga,
fear I am foe thin tor. I never could tell
how a woman was dressed, although
have often “lent a helping hand,” I am
still too ignorsnt of the “mysteries" to
tell what 1 see. I ean only say that
see some women with long tiak, some
with short taik, some with a good crop of
capillary on their omniums; others look
as it the oaterpillarbad “been tharsome
have vary pretty jewels on their nooks,
heads, arms, and ao forth. Whether
tbay were boaght at Tifsny’a or
tbs “dollar store,” I am net ex
port enough to give an opin
ion. Enough for m* and you and every
body else, so that th* woman are dear
creatures—pretty enongh, sweet eoougb,
with or without dressing, jewelry or other
finery. When I look at them I don’t
blame qid Solomon for going into th*
wholesale business, and wonder why old
Brigham don’t get a few hundred mors.
H* might get s supply from here, and
they never would b* missed.

Nuw Yoax, August 14.—Extract from
Bsecher: The full truth of this history re
quires that one more fact should be told,
especially as Mr. Tilton has invited it.
Money has been obtained from dm in the
course of these affairs in considerable
sums, bnt I did not at first look upon the
suggestions that I should contribute to
Mr. Tilton’s pecuniary wants as savoring
of blaokmail. This did not occur to me
until I had paid, perhaps, $8,000.
Afterwards I contributed, at one time,
$5,000. After the money had been paid
over, in five one thonsand dollar bills, to
raise which I mortgaged the house I live
in, 1 felt very much dissatisfied with my
self about it.
Finally a square demand and threats
were made to oue of my confidential
friend*, that if $6,000 mors were not paid
Tilton’s charges would be laid before the
This, I saw at *aae, waa blask-
mail in its boldest forpi, sod 1 uever prfid
a cent of it, but chkllengsd and requested
the fullest exposure.
In 1873, he, Beeeher, beoetns inwardly
satisfied that Tilton was inherently and
inevitably a ruined man. He did not mean
well by me, but as be had grown op an
der my influence and in my Ohurob, I
oould never free myself from a certain
degree of responsibility for bis misdo
ings.
Moulton, apparently affected by my
soliloquy, for it wae that rather than
conversation, said he waa sure that there
would be no trouble in procuring a re
oonciliatlon.
I gave him leave to state to Theodore
my feelings. He, Moulton, sat down st
my table, and took down, as I supposed,
a oondensed report of my talk, for I went
on still pouring out my wounded feelings
over this great desolation in Mr. Tilton's
family. He did not read the paper to me,
nor did 1 read it, nor have I ever seen it.
More than a year afterwards, Beecher
says, Moulton presents the papers which
Moulton alleged were destroyed two years
ago. 8he,
WOODHULL,
became th* heroine of Mr. Moulton and
Mr. Tilton. She was made welcome to
both houses, with the toleration but not
the cordial oonaent of their wives.
Beecher's interview with Woodhull, at
first interview, she was graoious; at th*
second she waa cold and haughty, but
at the third she was angry and threaten
log, for I had peremptorily refused to
preside at a lecture she wan about to give
at Steinwsy Hail. Most strenuous efforts
bad been mad* by both Mr. Tilton and
Mr. Moulton to induce me to preside at
this leoture, and to identify myself pub-
lioly with Mrs. Woodhull.
At about the same time I found that
the circle of which Mrs. Woodhull formed
a part, was the centre of the loathsome,
scandalising organited olsas, with greedy
and nnclean appetite* for everything
that was foul or vile.
After the interview with Tilton, Beech
er says, I went forth like a street-walker.
Hbe evidently expeeted me, and showed
me at onee to Mrs. Tilton's room. Mrs.
Tilton lay npou her bed, white os marble,
with dosed eyes as in a trance, and with
her hands upon her bosom, palm to palm,
like on* in prayer. Aa I look bank upon
it, the picture ia like some form carved iu
marble that I had seen upon monuments
in Europe.
Extract regarding Reformers: I was by
no means the only clergyman who waa
made the text for their private gossip,
while it seemed as if no woman of any
distinction in the land was left out of
their pool of scandal. All the history of
their past lives, sod even the graves of
their friends, were raked over to furnish
material and a pretext for their loathsome
falsehoods. It waa inexpressibly disgnst-
ing to me, and I would not aaaooiste with
these people ; yet Mr. Tilton and Mr.
Monlton had some strange theory con
cerning th* management of this particu
lar matter.

Cincinnati, August 14.—Two suits were
commenced yesterday by th* guardian of

ex-manager of the Western Union Tele

to replace to the credit of ths minors
stock of the company to th* value of $78,-
000, alleged to have been transferred by
the company to some person unknown to
th* minors upon a power of authority al
leged to have been fraudulently executed.
The certificate of stock were placed in the
Fourth National Bank of this city, and

by the Commissioners looked to a mix
ture, is removed to-day by the official
assertion that the Commission had no

Mr. Blow, who was absent when the
trustees were mixed, is opposed to mixed
schools. Denison claims that the consoli-
