Mu. Charge* H. Markham is the agent
for the Esquirer-Sun for Moscogoo and
Russell connties. He ib authorized to
solicit advertising and subscriptions, and
to receipt for the same. We commend
him as a gentleman in every way worthy
of confidence.
Coming to Mow York.
Among the hundreds of young men
who visit our office from time to time for
advice and assistance there are many sad
cases. Among those are thoso who have
come to this city on false representa
tions, expecting to step into business nt
once, and rise with great rapidity. They
have met the traveling agents of New
Yoik houses, and those gentlemen seemed
so jaunty and bright and free from care,
so mil of knowledge of many worldly
things, and so well acquainted with
“Vanderbilt” and “Stewart ’ and “Astor”
that the s nip’e young man in the country
ha-* seen ail city life in dreams that lay in
the color of the rose tie does not kuow
that those quick-witted young men are
putting a 1 they have in their clothes, that
in the city they live in very obscure quar-
* ters, or if they have a little room iu a
gieat hotel, that they have to work for
" their “houses” in those hotels in labors
often more humiliating than waiting on the
table and more laborious than carrying
baggage.
Sometimes there is sheer deception. We

hem to New York, and landing penniless office
hd never having learned the small econ-
uies of a new place, they were soon ab- novl8 l
blutely destitute and spiritless, ami funds
l to be obtained to return them to their
omes.
A few d*ys ago we had such a case in
hand. The young man was a printer. He
fhad a place at home in which he could
l make a subsistence. A young friend in
th.s city wrote him a glowing letter, de
scribing tho advantages of New York, the
emand for workmen, tho high pay, and
