Editor Jkiihj 'limca:
lit reading your excellent latper, j
tny attention wus attracted to t,houn
wise proposition of an Alderman to
toll the bridges. That experiment
has been tried once, and proved a
drawback to the city. While it was
true the city received something from
tilt; proceeds of the tolls, it did not
counterbalance the trade lost to the
city. It was tho means of building
up Girard and Brownevillo, for peo
ple will not pay to come into our
town if they ran find a market else
where. I hope the Council will think
well in this matter before they act,
and come to the conclusion not to
have a toll.

are a number of candidates in the field,
any of whom would make good officers.

only one can be elected for the same office.
Negroes will again become important

The election laws are made pointed by
the last Legislature, and hence, no mana
ger is allowed to take money for taxes,
but taxes muni be paid to the Tax Collec

to Mr. Frazier, Tax Collector, instructs
him that no one can vote who has not
paid all taxes required of him. Bo step up
you who want to vote and have not paid
your taxes, and settle.

Christmas day itself. We sec the people
of Atlanta have made great preparations

It is the feast of the Epiphany, or as the
name implies “glorious shining,” or
