BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING.
ImportiUt Station of that Body Yesteriey
Afttrnatn
s
The Hoard of Health held an impor
tant meeting yesterday afternoon, and
among other thinga, recommended to
Council that there be no change in the
force of the two eanttary department*
of the oily government. Reader* of
of The Time* are familiar with the
fact that at the beglnniog of the year,
Council praotioally abolished one
Hie office*, either that h^jjiinlu.ry,.Su
perintendent or that of Sanmfc-toi*
tpector. The abolishment was brougm
about by the consolidation of aalariea
of the two office*, and of oburse one or
the other of the head* bad to go. The
Board of Health was then left with the
burden of naming one of the officials
for retention uoder the new order of
tbings, and tbe heslth'of the oity be
ing an faotor in Bruni
wlok’s growth, tbe Board of Health
very properly recommends that bath
offioiats be retained. This Is entirely
in line with The Times’ remarks on
tbs subjsot when Council took eotion.
Tbe Times protested against tbe abol
ishment of either offioe, and spoke for
the retention of both officials. Tbe
Times is pleased to note that the
Board of Health ia of the same opinion
at originally expressed in these 00l
urane, and trust Council will act fa
vorably upon their recommendations.
Tbe Board will also •eoommend to
Council tbat the quarantine on tbe
(Acre be partly raised.and that plaoes of
business bs allowed to keep open until
9 o’clock each night there. This is a
question whioh Council will no doubt
give serious consideration.for while it
Is expensive in keeping the quarantine
on, expense does not out muoh figure
where tbe health of the community is
concerned. The Acre is certainly a
thorn in the flesh of Brunswick, and
the average citizen will n juice when
Its presence is eliminated from the
eight and sound of tbe people.

AT THE GRAND.
A fair sized house enjoyed “Why
Jones Left home” at the matioee per
formance yesterday afternoon. The
play was produced with tbe same snap
as tie eight previous. Tbe fail oast
and and will and easily captured a warm
spot in the hearts of the ladies and
ohlldren.
Last night the best play so far given
by this popular company was enaoted
before a large number of thoroughly
pleased theatre-goers. “The Midnight
Masquerade," a melodrama In four
acts, wss the title of the production .
Tbe dramatic effects, while of tbe
blood cosgulating order, were in a
largs measure eclipsed by tbe brill git
and sparkling view of oomedy which
runs through it from beginning to
end.
The sbadesand nuances served magnif
icently to bring out in bold relief alt
tbe fine points of tbe play.
Bessie Warren in the role of Adele
Marlon, was perrect and wentthreugh
her moat dramatic scenes with moving
grandeur.
The saucy and p quante petit* sou
brette, Una Clayton, as Poppy, was
tbe bright sunbeam of tbe perform
ance,acd with tbat peerles* comedian.
Guy Woodward, a* Dick Garrett,
reaped tbe honors of the eve
ning. Tbis team's clever specialty
work in the 4tb aet, in the shape or
songs, cake walk and funny dances
caused tbe spectators to applaud clam
orously. Frank Morey aa Rioardo
Alvenez proved a good “heavy.”
Cbas. B. Middleton as Robert Law*
renoe, and tbe balance of tbe cast did
w*P. Tbe specialties did well, ohief
among them being those of that great
couple, Keiffsr and Diamond. The
musical team of Heok and Eckert re
peated ita fine concert.
As announced by inimitable Guy
Woodward from the footlights last
night the bill for tbte evening’s per
formance will bs “The Strategist.”
He claims to have made tbe bit of bis
career io Ibis play, and if this be tbe
case a most enjoyable evening is in
store for those who will be at the
Grand tonight.
