MISS SCREVEN DEAD.
A Sister pf Mr, Samuel C. Atkinson
of This City.
The Morning News of yesterday
publ shea the following:
“Miss Georgia Bryan Soreven, el
diet daughter and child of the late
Colj John Soreven, died at the family
rtfiidenoe, at the orrer of Congress
an 1 Afcerooro, last night, after a
- illness of only a few h^ure.
Tor two or three wepin, Mis, Soreven
oad oompliined of *ttaok of a malady
which had caosed her much pain dur
ing her 'ife, acute indigestion, but no
Qfle of the faniTj regarded her as he
mg seriously ill. Oa former occasions
attacks of Indigestion bad been attend
ed by fainting spells, which bad passed
with their cause, and it was believed
that the indisposition whloh Miss
Soreven endured so quie'ly and pa
tiently would be at an end in a few
days.
Yesterday at noon her illness be
came more threatening and Major
Thomas Soreven was summoned from
his office to the bedside of hie eister.
She was then regarded as serisusly ill,
but it was not believed even then that
:bmp was anything dangerous to sp
prehend. Major Screven returned to
his office, but in the late afternoon
was again summoned Then the dan
ger had beoome fully apparent, and
Dr, Duncan, tbe family physician,
asked tbat Dr. Cbarltoo be summoned.
A message was sent for tbe latter
pbyaiciar, but he did not .receive it
in time to reach Mias Screven’s bed
side before she expired,
Dr. Duncan (ronuoced tbe death
due to heart disease, following the
acute indigestion from wbieb Miss
Screven suffered.
A strange fact in connection with
tbe death is tbat it oame witbin a few
bourae of Exactly seven months of the
death of her father, Col. John Soreven.
Col. Screven expired in tbe early
morning of January It, while bis
daughter breathed her last in the early
evening vt-Au*u 8.
Miss Soreven leaves surviving b.r a
brother, M Jor Thomas Soreven, ar.d
two sisters, Mrs, Samuel C. Atkinson
and Mrs. ELzabe'b Woodbrldge
Arnold, the former sister pf Bruns
wick and tbe latter of Jersey City.
Both have been notified of her death,
bu' it is feared that Mrs. Arnold , who
Is at pießeot in the mountains of Ver
mont, w.ll not be able to reach the
city in time for the funeral.
