in the Jewish new j ear, Rosh Jtlaehanah,
according, to the Hebrew calendar.
Next Monday the flist day of
the mon h Tisbri, and iho beginning of
the year 0661 of the Jewish era.
The day ia set apart as a solemn sea
son in which the members of the faith
aro supposed to review tho actions of
the past year, to repent and to prepare
themselves for Yom Kippur, or the Day
of Atonement, which Is observed ten
days later.
Rosh Haßhanah is also called tho day
of memorial, on account of a rabbinical
tradition that it ia the anniversary of
the day of crea'ion. Another name by
which it is known Is the day ot the
sounding of the shofar, to warn the peo
ple that tho season of preparation lias
commenced, that they must prepare
themselves by reviewing the deeds of
the past year and repenting of their
misdeeds for the day of atonement The
celebration of the day b gins at sunset
Monday aud lasts till sunset the day
following.

fine. The members will all betaken
over the state experimental larms.

of all interested to enable it to accom
