H TERRIBLE TRAGEDY
Companions in Sin Die a Horrible
Death in Savannah Early
Yesterday Morning,
A Savannah special says:
Driven to desperation by a jealousy
that mutt have made her ins me, Clara
Stuart, a woman of the east side,
this morning sent a bullet flying into
the brain of Frank Hemingway as
he lay sleeping beside her. Then, turn
ing the pistol on herself she ended her
own unfortunate life by firing a bullet
into her own brain In almost the same
way as the one that ended Heming
way’s existence.
The shooting must have ooourred in
the early hours of the morning, for,
Ahen tne bodies were found at 11
o’clooh, signs of decomposition had
already made themselves evid -ct upon
the laies of the two unfortunates, who
were laying side by aide in bed. They
lay in a froi t room of (he house, which
was kept by the woman, who was
known as “CmntesaCiara.”
The discovery was made whan the
servant oame to the bouse about 11
o’clock and was let in by an Inmate.
The servant, failing to arouse the pro.
prietress. as was her habit, tried the
door, and finding it nnlocked, opened
it and looked iu. She found the pair
apparently asieep, with what she re>
ported downstairs as grease on their
faces. Tae woman who slept down
stairs then went to the room and
discerned the pair in the oold embrace
of death, tbeir faoes blaoaened by the
burnt powder from ths revolver and
the discoloration generally attendant
upon wounds.
Hemingway was a trombona player
in the theatre orchestra and was pre
paring to leave the woman and move
to Cincinnatti.
She had declared that if the man
whom she loved left her she would kill
him but no one believed she would
put her threat into execution.
Suit for $5,000 Damages.
Lee Edwards, a well known negro of
this city, yesterday filed his suit in the
City Court for $5,C00 damages against
the Brunswick Light & Wa'er Cos.
This suit grows out of the acolden
which oooured at the corner of A and
G streets in which Edwards was the
victim, an aooount of which appeared
in the Times-Call at the time.
Edwards was crossing A the
night of September 27tb and was
oaugbt in a live wire claimed as having
been oarelessly left lying on the street
by jtbe Light & Water Cos. Edwards
was thrown down, severely burnt and
badly shocked. Mr. Max Isaao filled
ed the petition for Edwards and Messrs.
Crovatt & Whitfield, counsel for the
Light & Water Cos., will represent them
in this case.

Managers of the Grand Adopt Sensible
Methods.
Managers Fleming & Waif of the
Grand opera : honse. are given the
publio ample notice that no one will be
seated after the curtain rises at 8 :80
until the ourrain goes down on the
soeue then on. In other words theater
goers will have to arrive by 8:30 o’clock
or wait in the lobby until the first act
is over before being sealed. This is a
move in the right direotion. There are
some people who arrive et the opera
house after the play is on and disturb
the entire audience with their entering
and finding their seats. It is a petty
annoyance that Is not to be abated ex
oept in the manner indicated by the
managers in their notioeaud the Timee-
C-U is pleased to note that the man
agers have enough consideration for
thfeir patrons to proteot them by shut*

William J, Bryan an Actor,
Those who have followed the career
of William J. Bryan are aware of the
fact that be has tried hie hand at many
different vocations; lawyer, farmer,
sohool teaoher, orator, eto , bat there
are not ma-y who know that he was
once a real live aotor; but euoh is the
case however.
It was about 25 years ago, a company

bold on the stage, He had applied
without success to a number of mnna
gers for a position or opportunity to
show what he ooutd do histrionically
At last his time came and be whs
engsged to play the part of Sir Francis
Levison with the “East Lynne’’ com
pany, He was fairly successful and
continued with the company for sever
al weeks, übt'l be fouad out that there
is more than gold that glitters, and
that studying Blaokstone was easier
work than “trouping” in one night
stands.
A small but important member of
the company with which Mr. Bryan
was connected and made his debut,
was “Little Leah”, now Miss Leah
Less! who is playing “Lady Isabel”
and “Madamo Vine” in “East Lynne”
Miss Lessi bas always been a great
admirer of Mrs. Henry Wood’s great
