Committee of Citizens Issue
Gail for Mass Meeting:
TO BE HELD FRIDAY Nit
In the Interest of Harmony at the
Coming Munioipal
Election.
The committee of oitizeos appoint and
by a meeting: held Friday last have
issued an address incorporating a call
for a mass meeting to be held Fi day
night next at the city ball at 8 o’oh ca
The oall anncuncee the purposes of
ihifi movement as for harmony in he
pproaobing munioipal election and
the nomination of a tiok.t upon whiob
all classes of voters oan units and rely
to promote the best fi lanoial and corn,
mercial interests of this community.
It has been suggested as a result of the
meeting held last Friday that the
names of Messrs. A . L, Franklin, M.
K :ser, J 8 ovml Smith and W. B
Cook w uld be acceptable to the voters
as men representing varied industrial,
oommeroial and other intereati—but
all of whom oould be relied upon to
leLd their efforts to .arda the proper
administration of publio affairs /
I is not known, ae far as the general
publio is concerned whether these
gentlemen named would . ooept if nom
insted, neither is it known positively
that the ticket as suggested will ba
nominated,
A the Tims*- Cali understands the
object of the prime mcvtrs in this
matter they haye simply the interest*
of Bruns wlok at heart a: and only desire
to sea men plaoed in the aldermauto
obaire who will do the beat they oan to
keep pulling Brunswick forward on
the road to proepsrity, These eenti
m< nts are to be oomnuended and the
aotion of the oitizens of Brunswick in
mess meeting assembled will be a very
proper method of bringing out all the
pros and cons of the situation.
Tae -Times Ca.l Is heartily in sympa
thy with the idea of harmmy. Ae a
general proposition It is mu.,h better
tor the oitizen* of Brunswiok to noi;e
on four good men and eleot them
without opposition than it is for a
division in pnblio sentiment to lead to
a oontest at the polls.
The mas. meetfrg now called affords
everyone an opportunity tor free and
open discussion of any questions to be
ooneidered in oonneotion with men and
measures but above all everyone who
attends will no doubt be prompted by a
feeling of harmony and unity of
notion.
The Times-Call is interested in all
matters pertaining to Brunswicks beat
interest and trusts that at tbs meeting
Friday night a full sttennanoe of those
interested in pushing Brnnswiok for
ward will be noted.
The offioial oali for tbe mass meeting
which Incorporates an expression of its
primary purposes is herewith given:
To the Citizens of Brnnswiok;
To maintain a municipal governs
ment whiob bas for its sole objeot the
best interests of all its oitizeus is a
purpose in whiob you cannot hesitate
to join. To acooroplisb this purpose
tbe selection of aldermen who possess
t‘ e qualifications of Inti Uigenoe, bon
es y, diltgenoe and independence is
absolutely essentia 1 , if this oan be
done without the strife, the bit etne.r,
ths harshness, thi expense, of a hea‘-
edfactio.al contest, it ought to be
done. Those who directed this com
munication to be Bddr o tsedfo yru are
ananiur u in tie opinion that it c n
be done.
Lookirg solely to this purpose an
informal meeting was held at the oity
hall on Friday, Oct. lltt>„ in whioh the
following oitizens of Biuaewiok
participated' F. D. Aiken, Moses
Daniel, TANARUS, NewmaoJ C. D. Ogg.E' H.
Mason, Julioos May, U, il, MuA i-te*-,
R R Hopkins, E. Brobeton, 0, Miller,
E F. Coney, P. S Sm : tb, C. Hslver
eor, M. .J. Crovatt, L Gold,
smith, C. L. Caodler, J. W, Thomas,
>f, J. Lott, A, L Franklin.
After oarefui consideration of the
while mat er, they unanimously
agreed that Uis not on'y possibe for
toe god citizens of Brunswick to
Urine on four aldermen to be voted for
at the approaching Deotmbei election
who will admiuls.er pub io sffuirs
honestly, wisely and capably; but that
it is essential to the prosperity and tbs
business interests oi ibe oity that they
ehouid do so.
Having reaobed this conclusion, they
direoted the undersigned committee to
oall a mass meeting of the or.lzans of
Brunswick, fo; the purpose of nominal
mg an aldermanio iloket to be voted
for at the ncxi municipal eieot.on; and
they respeo.fully invue and urge all
good oiuzens who are interested in
ihe welfare and prosperity of Bruns
wick to attend a mats meeting, for
said purpose, at the city ball, at 8
o’clock p. m, on Friday, the 18,b day
of Ootober, 1801.
