Don’t wait to see ’’Oprah”
By Pomelo Permar Shierling
"Waiting for Oprah" is hilarious.
It was so well done that I intend to
see it again.
"Oprah," written by playwright
Mary Miller and directed by Tony
Ferri, invites the audience to the
monthly meeting of the "First Tues
day Book Club" which meets on
Thursday.
On this particular Thursday the
group expects Oprah Winfrey to
attend the meeting. While they wait,
and wonder if she will come, they
chat.
The characters, who are wonder
fully cast, are five drastically differ
ent women. Allison (Clynne Morgan)
is the hostess and a very practical,
calm person.
Louise (Melinda Highsmith) is an
adorable, somewhat naive blonde.
Janice (Lynda Dalton-Gallagher)
steals the show. She is an over done,
over dressed woman who loves the
book club but doesn't really read the
books.
Fran (Betsy Wood), also practi
cal and outwardly calm, successfully
hides a mammoth problem until it
surfaces in an unexpected manner.
And Mia (Brooke Swan), the young
est member of the book club, is savvy
to the vagaries and injustices of the
world even at her young age.
During the play the depth of the
characters is revealed as they discuss
and deal with their own problems in
a very humorous way.
The cast members feed off one
another and deliver their lines beau
tifully and on time.
You just don't want the play to
end.
"Oprah" is performed in a very
intimate setting at Art Downtown/
Gallery 209 located at 209 Gloucester
Street in historic downtown Bruns
wick. Tickets are $25 per person and
include dessert catered by Daddy
Cates.
See "Oprah" every Saturday eve
ning through Labor Day. Doors
open at 7:15 p.m. Reservations are
required. Call 912-262-0628. □
