At least one candidate for
the Glynn Comity Board of
Education may have trouble
finding a future ally on the
board next year if he gets elect
ed this week.
While hearing a facilities
committee report during their
regular meeting last week,
the Board of Education (BOE)
challenged a statement made
in a newspaper ad paid for by
the “Friends of Jerry Mancil.”
Mancil is the candidate who
is looking to unseat BOE At
Large Post 2 incumbent Lance
Turpin.
According to BOE member
Millard Allen, who chairs the

St. Simons residents had
a little shock last Wednes
day during their morning
commute when, overnight,
three large live oaks magi
cally sprang up in the center
of the Demere/Frederica Road
roundabout.
The three, 25 ft. trees are a
gift from the Live Oaks Garden
Club of St. Simons Island. The
garden club donated $35,000
for the trees from money they
have made over the years sell
ing poinsettias at Christmas.
The St. Simons Island Land
Trust agreed to match the gar
den club donation, according to
Trust Executive Director Russ
Marane, with funds raised to
finish the roundabout land
scaping.
Glynn County had included
about $20,000 in the project’s
road construction budget, but
it was mainly for grassing, so
the garden club and land trust
agreed to chip in and finish Beginning about 11:30 Tuesday night July 8, a landscape
