The Islander adds sports to its local news coverage
The Islander's sports coverage has
had a big hole in it for many years. Part
of the reason was our small staff and a
priority decision to focus on City and
County issues.
Last week Jake
Harrison, 15 year old
son of Mr. and Mrs.
Anthony Harrison of
St. Simons Island,
wrote a preview piece
for us on the local
Kingfish Tournament.
Jake's knowledge,
passion for sports, and
writing ability go way
beyond his age. His
plans are to attend the
University of Georgia
and major in sports
journalism.
When time and
school work permit
Jake, a sophomore at
Glynn Academy, will
report on Glynn Academy and Bruns
wick High sports; of course UGA foot
ball - he's an avid fan; sports items of
local, regional and state interest; and
offer his commentary
on what is going on in
sports. Yes, he's that
knowledgeable.
Jake was born
in Glynn County
and has a younger
brother, Gray. In his
spare time he works
at Frankie G's on the
island and spent three
weeks this summer as
a junior counselor at
Camp High Harbor in
northeast Georgia.
We are delighted to
have Jake as part of
The Islander staff and
look forward to a good
working relationship
with him. □
