"ESPLOST 2 is critical," said Dr.
Michael Bull, superintendent of the
Glynn County School System. "The
tier one projects for ESPLOST 2 are a
southwest middle school; a new Bruns
wick High School; and renovation of
Glynn Academy's Prep, Sidney Lanier
and cafeteria buildings."
Dr. Bull received the verbal endorse
ment for the tier one projects from
board members in time for his sched

the Brunswick/Golden Isles Chamber
of Commerce.

- Andy Lundell, CEO for the Golden
Isles Career Academy (GICA) report
ed that 19 program areas were being
considered for the new technical high
school. The project is scheduled for
completion March 2009 and should
come in on time and under budget,
Lundell said.
Tentative plans for staffing include
moving career and technical staff from
Brunswick High (BHS) and Glynn
Academy (GA).
To equip the GICA, existing training
equipment will be moved from BHS

An official GICA Director of High

On Thursday, December 11 diming
the GICA board of directors regular
meeting, it was announced that the
search committee had narrowed the
candidates for Director of High School
programs down to two applicants.
The two candidates, Dr. Gomto and
Matthew Blackstone, assistant princi
pal of Brunswick High School, were
interviewed by Dr. Bull and Lundell
but, "Even though both candidates had
special qualities we were unable to
reach a consensus," Dr. Bull said.
"We will post the position again in
February and March but Dr. Gomto
will serve as Director in the interim,"
Dr. Bull said.
Since College of Coastal Georgia is
now a four year school, it will no longer
partner with GICA. The existing GICA
charter will have to be changed, Lun
dell said. Most likely the Career Acad
emy's new partner will be Altamaha
Technical College in Jesup.
In response to questions raised by
board member Ruby Robinson about
changing the charter, BOE attorney
Andy Lakin said he had spoken with
Georgia Board of Regent member Jim
Bishop who "assured me everything
would be worked out."
Earlier on Monday new board mem
bers, Mancil and Madala, met for
several hours with Dr. Bull and his
cabinet learning their way around the
school system. Each cabinet member
discussed his/her area; accomplish
ments and future plans. When the
special called meeting began both new
members were asked to sit with regu
lar board members and their input was
included diming the meeting. “I
