1950s movie poster preserved and returned to Ritz
The Ritz Theatre was given a gift this holiday season: a poster of the film “The
President’s Lady” starring Susan Hayward and Charlton Heston released in 1953.
It was framed and hung in the lobby of the theatre thanks to the generosity of
Joseph Burkhart and Susan Barber. Joe had found the poster back in the 1980s
at the Ritz just prior to the City of Brunswick purchasing the building to save it
from demolition. A lover of antiques and preserving the past, Joe kept the poster,
which is in almost mint condition, safe for all these years.
“It was our pleasure to return this piece of history back to the Ritz Theatre,” said
Burkhart.
“It was a wonderful surprise and we are proud to be able to showcase it in the
lobby of the theatre,” said Executive Director, Heather Heath. “It is a wonderful
Christmas present for the Ritz.” Heather Heath with Joe Burkhart. Provided photo
