KGIB Receives State Honors
Keep Golden Isles Beautiful was
awarded three prestigious honors
at the recent Keep Georgia Beauti
ful Foundation awards luncheon in
Macon.
KGIB was recognized in the 78-af-
filiate state network with the Waste
Reduction and Recycling Award (non
profit) for the Is Trash Really Trash
3rd grade education program; Innova
tive Partnership Award for the GEOR
GIA’S COAST IS NOT AN ASHTRAY
project; Affiliate Award (population
75,001-100,000) for overall program
matic accomplishments.
Since its inception in 2014, Is Trash
Really Trash has directly reached over
5,000 local youth with waste reduction
and recycling education.
The GEORGIAS COAST IS NOT
AN ASHTRAY project joined all six
of Georgia’s ocean-bordering counties
in one cohesive cigarette litter pre
vention effort. KGIB’s litter preven
tion, waste reduction and recycling,
water resource awareness, community
greening and education projects and
initiatives amassed over 14,000 vol
unteer hours in 2017 and over 6,000
fulfilled volunteer opportunities.
Georgia has the largest number of
affiliates in the Keep America Beauti
ful national system, and the very first
Keep America Beautiful affiliate was
established in Macon.
“We are excited to represent the
Golden Isles in this way on the state
level,” said KGIB board chairman
Clement Cullens. “These awards di
rectly reflect the contributions of
KGIB volunteers which are the back
bone of our organization. Together
we are making a difference in our
community.”
