Senator Hoke Smith
Using His Influence
For Democracy.
In a hot bed of Republicanism
a northern paper makes the follow
ing comment on the speech of Ga.
junior senator who is speaking in
behalf ;>f Wilson and Marshal.
“For two solid hours last evening
Senator Hoke Smith of Georgia
held the attention of an audience
of voters who filled the Coliseum.
The distinguished Southerner was
in a genial mood throughout Lis
address and carried his auditors
: along with him by a woun
' chain of argument that were
rid convincing.

ched to the Coliseum. Samuel
Woolner presided at the meeting
anl after toutohing on the policies
of the three leading parties intro
duced Senator Smith. Sturdyand
rugged, gifted with with the power
to drive his arguments home to the
his herears, the brilliant
/. sly rt peatnily that

repeatedly interrupted byapplus'-s
especially when he paid tribute to
the two leaders Wilson and Bryant.
While he was genial and enter
taining he was intensely earnest,
making an apj ealthat was entirely
devoid of personal attack or bitter
Invective. His southern accent
was especially pleasing and gave
additional force to his argument.
The meeting was an unqualified
success the large audience of votet
ers testifying to the deep interest
in the subjects discussed.”
