ELECTION SPECIAL
... The Cluster Presents The Candidates ...
S. G . A.
Candidates
PRESIDENT
PRESIDENT
Dave Hudson
Permit me to take this opportun
ity to present my candidacy for the
presidency of the SGA. I base my
candidacy on my record of extra-
drricular and scholastic achieve
ment, past service on the SGA, and
a desire to work for a better Mer-
I understand the role of the
SGA to be a dual one. First, the
SGA has certain positive activities
that it is expected to carry out
during the year. These come in the
form of Orientation Week, Home
coming, student entertainment and
activities, operation of the student-
fsrulty leadership conference, and
many administrative duties. The
SGA’s second role is to safeguard
Student interest and represent the
students in all areas of campus
activity. If elected, I pledge to act
slways for your best interest in
these matters.
Evidence of my past interest and
participation in Mercer affairs is
in membership in Blue Key, Scab-
hade and Blade. Phi Eta Sigma,
Delta Stgma-Rho — Tau Kappa
Alpha (national debate society),
and Ciceronian; and participation
in SGA (class Veep, and Freshman
Advisor), IFC, Varsity Debate
(Pres. & Veep.), Varsity Tennis,
ami the Student Union Board.
I ask that you seriously consider
your vote for this most important
office, and in return if you should
honor me with this responsibility,
I promise again to work to make
Mercer a better place for us all to
live and learn.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Rogor Andorborg
First of all, I would like to thank
the Cluster for giving me thia op
yortunity to state my jjualilica-
tions (or the office of vice-president
rt the SGA. A junior here at Mer-
Ser, I have maintained an overall
B-plus average in pre-mod studies.
My Freshman year I was made a
■ember of Phi Eta Sigma Fresh
man Honorary Society. My Sopho
more and Junior years I have held
the offices of Chaplain, Warden,
■ad Vice-President of Sigma Alpha
Rpsilon. I am also a liason repre
sentative to the Honor Council.
This year I was elected Toby at
Homecoming. However, I feel that
ay heat qualification is my willing-
to serve and work for the
Btudent body as a whole. I would
•ppreciat* your support in the
■aiing election this next week.
David Wansley
It is hard for me to believe that
I, David Wansley, find myself
aspiring to the highest office of
service at Mercer. I fought the deci
sion to run for t^iis office, but
finally compelled to offer my serv
ices to the students.
My past leadership capacities as
the honor committee, junior class
vice president. Cluster staff, secre
tary and also vice president of
Lambda Chi Alpha, treasurer of
Phi Mu Alpha, aecretary of Phi
Eta Sigma, and student union
board have enabled me to develope
the ability of successfully working
with other people.
It is my hope that the S.G.A. will
continue working closely with the
Student Union, but begin working
closer with the I.F.C., Panhellenic,
and Independent Council. I would
like to see a student government
concerned with representing the
entire student body and not just a
favored few. I wish to see the stu
dents. who are the reason for the
university, he able to express their
sentiments and know that a student
government exists that not only
discusses, but also acts.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Jim Wood
As candidate for Vice President
of S.G.A.. I would like to solicit
your vote and state a few of my

A junior this year, I was grad
uated valedictorian of my senior
class in high school. 1 have served
also as President of the Senior
Class and Secretary of the Key
Ctuh. Being a sports-enthusiast, I
made All-Conference Baseball
Team my junior and senior year. I
was also an active Tnember of the
National Honor Society ami the
Student Council.
While at Mercer I have main
tained a B average in the pre-med
program. An active member of my
fraternity, I have served as Secre
tary and Treasurer of Kappa Sig
ma and was elected Model Pledge.
If elected. I am looking forward
to my duties as President of the
Senate which is one of the major
responsibilities of the V.P. My
main objective is better coordina
tion between faculty ami students.
Your vote would be greatly
appreciated.

EDITOR

The Editor of the fluster is per
haps one of the least seen people
at Mercer University. His time out
of class is spent in an effort to
organize a paper for the next week,
make assignments to staff mem
bers, and do the galleys, proofread
ing. and lay-out for the current
week's paper.
Since I transferred to Mercer
this past Fall quarter I have tried
to find some way in which to help
develop the opinions of students
through the Cluster and my other
service and organizationed activi
ties. My work with the debate
team this year has gone closely
along with the news work and has
given me a clearer insight into what
should make a sound journalistic
and editorial approach. Last Fall I
began working for the paper as a
news-staff member and did occa
sional editorials until I became a
member of the editorial staff fast
quarter.
Because of the constant improve
ment of the Cluster . under
Bobby Phillips I would like to con
tinue this trend by applying the
many things I have learned under
his supervision; while working in
almost all of the phases of the
paper’s activity.
I have had the necessary experi
ence to be an editor but I feel that
you should be assured that I have
the desire and the energies to direct
the Cluster’s course. The paper now
has a firm footing and I feel that
if I am able to outline a course for
its editorializing with a constant
development of student and campus
news that I can develop the Cluster
into an excellent source of informa
tion and a worthy competitor of the
larger university newspapers in the
South.
Your vote is a vote of confidence
in experience and a vote of a new
attitude toward the Cluster’s
growth.

In past years, the Cluster has
been weaker than the Mercer stu
dent body would like. 1 hope that
in the future, we will not only have
a stronger and better organized
Cluster, but a more frequent Clus
ter. The very fact that we have a
competitive election thia time is en
couraging. The fact that students
and faculty are becoming more in
terested is also encouraging.
My intentions are simple and
clear—“I want a well organized,
student-operated and frequently
published paper.” Having worked
with papers at Torcos High School.
I feel I am familiar with the oper
ations of a newspaper. For the past
two yean I have bean active in ra-

Senior Class Candidates
PRESIDENT
Roddy Clark
Next Wednesday is the day you
pick the Candidate for President of
your Senior Class. This is a very
important decision, because the
person you elect will be the Presi
dent of the ttkifl Alumni Associa
tion after graduation. Most of all
this will he the person who will be
representing you during your Sen
ior Year.
Though not hragging I think I
am well qualified for this position.
Born in a small town I know the
rural student's ideas and having
associated in a larRe town, I feel
that I know the urban student's
feelings. Also I have served as Vice
President and Ritualist of the ATO
Fraternity. Treasurer of the Inter-
Fraternity Council. Secretary and
Treasurer of the German Club, and
in the past have been a member o(
Circle K
If 1 am elected your President,
during our Senior Year I hope to
work hard for our class. 1 will work
close with the Presidents of other
classes, SGA Officials, and School
Officials in trying to get better
meals in the cafeteria, less restric
tions on Mercer Coeds, an increase
in student activities, and better
relations between administration
and students.
Thursday when you vote, I hope
that you will consider and vote for
me Your Senior Class President.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Bill Wehunt
My decision to run for Vice
President of the Senior Class did
not come in response to a demand"-
ant fan club, nor did it result from
any conception that I had of being
the only person On campus capable
of doing the job well. Stated simp
ly, my reason for running is this;
I would very much enjoy, and
greatly appreciate, the opportunity
of working for and representing the
senior class in the oncoming year
Granted, the desire to hold office
is something that every candidate
has in common Yet, it is only when
this desire is coupled with leader
ship experience and personal integ
rity that the candidate offers some
basis for the voter's selection Hav
ing served as a delegate to and
Rush Coordinator of the IFC,
President of the pledge class and
Rush Chairman of Lambda Chi
Alpha Fraternity, vice president of
and Chairman of the Miss Mercer
Pageant for the Circle K Club, a
member of Phi Eta Sigma Honora
ry Fraternity, and recently elected
Captain of the Scabbard and Blade
Military Fraternity, I solicit your
vote, on the basis of this experience
and my desire to serve you. for
Vice President of the Senior Class.
SECRETARY
Lynn Goy«n
Hi’ I’m Lynn Goyen, a junior
from Jacksonville, Florida. As a
hostess for prospective students this
year, I have gained a special in-
toraat in Mercer and in some of
the ways in which we, aa students.
PRESIDENT
Bobby Phillips
I would like to offer a short
statement as to why I am a candi
date for Senior Claas President
Having served as editor of the
Cluster I have become aware of the
potentiality of the student body's
influence upon administrative deci
sions This potentiality should be
developed. If elected it will be my
primary purpose to make the voice
of the students heard.
As to particular qualifications
for the |K>sition I feel that it is
within my capabilities to perform
the duties of Senior Class President
in a manner worthy of your con
fidence. I can make no particular
promises at this point though I
would like to see a four day class
week (meaning a three day week
end) and |>erhaps better meals in
the cafeteria. If you can possibly
do so. please vote for me.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Tom Sims
Mv name is Tom Sims and I am
a candidate for Senior Class Vice
President. During my three years
at Mercer I have gained a great
deal of leadership experience
through offices which I have held
in my fraternity. Phi Delta Theta.
While serving as fraternity presi
dent. I was selected to represent
my chapter at our international
convention.
I feel that I am well qualified to
serve in the position of Senior Class
Vice President and I will appre
ciate your sup|x>rf.
SECRETARY
Sandy Burnam
Sandy Burnam is a candidate for
secretary of the Senior Class She
has held various positions of leader
ship on campus in the past three

ment Association as Secretary of
the Junior Class. She is presently
serving as Treasurer of Y W A's.
and a member of the Student
