VICE-PRESIDENT
John Winkle
Permit me to present my can
didacy for Vice-President of the
Junior Class To be qualified for
this office of leadership requires
a background of responsibility and
a future of dedicated service.
Evidence of my responsibility to
duty includes the positions of
Honor Council Justice, President
of the Vanity Debate Club, and
member of Circle K. During my
Freshman year, I was fortunate
to have been indicted into Phi Eta
Sigma Honorary Scholastic Fra
ternity and to have received the
Spright Dowell Award.
I tr ist that you will consider
each candidate carefully and, if
elected, I promise to give that
dedicated service in the best in
terest of our class and the Mercer
student body.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Doug Clepper
My decision to run for Vice
President of the class of 19G9 came
as a direct result of one thing. I
want” to be directly involved in a
working organization whose pur
pose it is to improve Mercer Uni
versity. If elected, I intend to
represent next year's Junior Class
In a manner they deserve to be
represented Thank you.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Bob Porter
Mv name is Bob Porter, I'm a
red headed yankee from Washing
ton. D C. and am presently cam
paigning for the office of Junior
Class Vice President. Since enroll
ing at Mercer I have served in a
number of capacities in various
student activities. I have served as
Vice President of my Freshman
and Sophomore Hasses and while
in the Student Government Asso
ciation I have served on various
committees such as those for the
Freahman Beauty Pageant, Home,
coating, the Folk Festival and
others I am in Alpha Phi Omega
Service Fraternity, I am on the
Honor Committee, and I work in
connection with the Admissions
Olfice.
These are some of my qualifies
trims which I feel make me capable
of serving as Vice President of next
pmr'a Junior darn. I mould appre
ante aad enjoy being given the
opportunity to hold this post and
I hope for your consideration on
Thank
During the SGA elections the
student body must choose the
officers that will lead our Junior
Class in the Fall. These officers
will not only plan Homecoming
activities, but work with the SGA
to insure a successful school year.
It becomes evident that an individ
ual with school interest is needed
to fill the position of Junior Class
Secretary. I feel that I am such
an individual.
If it's experience you seek, I have
served as secretary in various or
ganizations during the last few
years. Interest too, is an important
quality fpr the SGA officer to
posess. Serving as cheerleader for
the past two years exemplifies this
interest,*and points to an enthusi
asm needed for such a position
Integrity and respect are always
important aspects of a class leader.
Being selected to serve on the
Honor Committee exhibits these
qualities. Finally, willingness to
serve — 1 have no activities or
honors to prove my willingness. I
would like to ask for you vote, and
state that if elected Junior Secre-
t >ry. I will willingly work my hard
est to insure a successful Junior
year.
SECRETARY
Bunny Flak*
Looking ahead to next year and
our status as Juniors at Mercer, we
must decide on officers to represent
our class. As candidate for the of
fice of Secretary I would appreciate
your supixirt. I have never held a
position in the Student Govern
ment, but I am presently serving
as President of S.N.E.A. and assis
tant Pledge Trainer of Phi Mu
Fraternity.
I enjoy working with people and
would consider it an honor to serve
as Junior Class Secretary. I will
do my best in representing our
class if I am elected.
“A vote for Bunny is a hop in
the right direction.”
TREASURER
Claudia Young
During the past year, the SGA
has shown just how important and
vital its existence is to the student
body. Without the SGA, such fea
tures as the Percy Sledge Dance,
Homecoming, and the up-coming
dance with the Tams, would not
be possible. It has sought to better
the student-faculty relationship,
and most important, sought to plan
activities that would increase stu-
dent-hody participation in campus
life.
My reason for seeking the posi
tion of Junior Treasurer centers
around this participation. If elect
ed, I will work to my fullest capa
city, to continue planning the activ
ities which will guarantee full stu
dent support. As a cheerleader
these two years at Mercer. I have
seen the student spirit in Mercer
rise As feature Editor of the
Clutter. I have seen student parti
cipation. As a member of the
Homecoming Committee I have
viewed the SGA in action. Aa a
member of the first Mercer swim
team, I have seen Mercer's activi
ties broaden. I am aware that our
student body, and especially the
Junior Claas have a potential never
realized before. I am making your
support to elect me as your Junior
Class Treasurer. If elected, I will
work to manage our claas tremury
and plan activities that will con
tinue the trend of etudent support
Elect Claudia Young, Junior Haas

Huey Murphy
Huey Murphy would like to take
this opportunity to acquaint you
with himself, and his reasons for
seeking election to the Presidency
of your Sophomore CIssb, In High
School Huey served on the Stu
dent Council for three years,
Treasurer of the Key Club, cap
tain of his football team, a mem
ber of the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, and took an active role on
a committee with his Headmaster
for the development of his school.
These are some of his qualifica
tions which make him well aware
of the responsibilities this election
holds. Such things as library hours,
dormitory rules for girls, and the
situation in the cafeteria obviously
need revision, and this candidate
will strive in every way to make
his fellow students proud to have
his as their Sophomore Class Presi
dent. Huey will also do his best to
achieve a greater voice for the
Sophomore Class at this institu
tion. Vote for “the red”, vote for
Huey Murphy.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Ray Sullivan
f am running for the office of
Vice President of the Sophomore
Class. My home is in South Bay,
Florida and I attended Belle Glade
High School. I held such offices as
Vice President of Student Council,
Vice President of Interact Club and
played four years of varsity football
and baseball, receiving All-County,
All-Conference, and All-State nom
inations in football. I am a member
of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and
was elected Secretary-Treasurer of
our pledge class. I am also a mem
ber of the varsity baseball squad. I
feel that these offices and recogni
tions have qualified me for the
office I am now seeking.
I have noted in talking with past
class-officers and visits to other
universities that activities and proj
ects can be carried out by the
various classes on a larger scale
than they are here at Mercer. And
the apparent reason for this is be
cause students do not fail to assert
themselves through their officers.
At this point, I cannot help hut
think, that our class will be more
efficient in these respects. Already,
we have shown outstanding leader
ship responsibilities and concern
for extracurricular activities at
Mercer, by placing members of our
class on the varsity basketball,
baseball and cheering squads, the
debate team, etc. . . .
Therefore, if. elected, it is my
intention to assist the President in
approaching the administration
with suggestions for heightening
student activities and projects
through self-legislation.
VOTE' And when you do, con
sider me, Ray Sullivan, as your
candidate for the office of Vice
President of the Sophomore Class.

The voter's job is to judge the can

Hence, election's seem to be
based on a simple entity — trust
The voter must evaluate a candi
date and place his trust in that
candidate’s ability. There are, of
course, good judgments and bad
judgments. I hope you will be using
good judgment when you cast your
ballot for Mike Camp for Vice-
President of the Sophomore Claas.
VICE-PRESIDENT
Larry Shsppard
Undoubtedly you have been
made aware that the day for stu
dent elections is now drawing near.
The signs around campus are dis
playing the names of many candi
dates soliciting your vote for a
student office. However, the right
of these candidates to hold any
office is a decision that will be en
tirely left up to you.
In the race for Vice President of
the Sophomore Claas there are six
candidates, each of whom has
entered for various reasons. I can
think of no greater honor than for
you to allow me the privilege of
serving you as your Sophomore
Class Vice President. The oppor
tunity to work with a class as fine
as ours is a task which to me is
unsurpassable. However, as I said
previously, the responsibility for
electing the most qualified man is
entirely yours. Having served as
President of the Beta C3ub in high
school, and now aa the President
of the pledge claas of Lambda Chi
Alpha Fraternity, aa well as being
a member of the campus Circle K
Club, I solicit your vote as a
qualified candidate in Thursday's
election.
