Sarah Hackney
Sarah Hackney is running for
Treasurer of the Sophomore Calas
the election held April 12, 1967.
She has held various offices of
Itveral organizations in which she
has l>een a member. She is familiar
srith the office of treasurer and will
hr able to assume the responsibili
ties which this office requires.
Previously she has been the Alpha
3am ma Delta representative to the

The first duty of the Freshman
Advisor is the planning and execut
ing of Orientation and Freshman
Weeks at the beginning of each
Fall quarter. As Sophomore Class
President this past term, my duties
were to aid the Freshman Advisor
during these weeks, giving me ex
perience in the mechanics of plan
ning programs, conducting campus
tours, and leading discussion
groups.
This summer I will be on cam
pus working and taking a course
in summer school. Being on campus
will facilitate my working with the
student personnel office in plan
ning Fall Orientation, if I am
elected.
The other primary duty of the
Freshman Advisor is reporting to
the Clutter after each Student
Government meeting what trans
pires. Through experience as re
cording secretary of Kappa Alpha
Order and social reported of KA
to the Clutter, I feel competent
for this particular duty.
I ask you to elect me to this
highly responsible office so I may
participate energetically in wel
coming next year's freshmen as
well as remain in a capacity of
service to the student body in the
growth of a powerful and efficient

past association with the workings

ron has led me to believe that I
would be qualified to serve in the
capacity expected on this Student
Government committee. And, in

serve as an active part of the SGA
during my Senior year at Mercer.

FRESHMAN ADVISOR
Scott McCall
I am a candidate for Freshman
Advisor because I believe that I
have the experience and the desire
to work that is necessary ot fulfill
the duties of this office. I also be
lieve that I can bring new ideas
to this office that will enable the
Freshman Advisor to be more ef
fective.
I was graduated from the Geor
gia Academy for the Blind in 1966
and was valedictorian of my class.
During my four years in high
school. I worked as a student as
sistant to the administration in the
school's orientation program. I was
also president of my class for four
years, president of the Beta Club,
president of the Athletic Club,
editor of the school newspaper,
and captain of the track and
wrestling teams. I believe that this
experience qualifies me for the
position of leadership which I seek.
As Freshman Advisor I plan to
request an area in the Student
Center where I may be accessible
to freshmen. This will enable roe
to work closer with the new stu
dents, and will provide them with
place to meet individually with
me as their needs arise.
As Freshman Advisor my work
wilTnot end after Orientation Week
and Freshman week. Since this is
only an introduction to Mercer for
freshmen, I plan to work with them
throughout the year in all fresh
men activities. I will also make my
self available to them throughout
the year to help with any prob-

Bill Ingram
Bill Ingram, a candidate for the
appropriations committee, is a
native of Newnan. Georgia, gradu
ating from Newnan High School.
His participation in high school
of the Beta Club, President of the
of his sophomore class. President
activities includes being President
Student Body, member of the Key
Club, and a three year letterman
in football, basketball, and track.
His ability as a student is em
phasized by his being nominated
twice for the Governor’s Honors
Program and also by the fact that
he was an honor graduate. Bill was
also chosen as Outstanding Christ
ian Athlete for two years. Out
standing Citizen for two years, and
Outstanding Senior by the Rotary
Club, Optimist Club, and Student
Body.
Bill is presently a member of the
freshman class. He has made
Dean’s List winter quarter, and
was elected President by his
MIMA pledge class. Recently he
was appointed to the Honor
Council.
Bills’ background exemplifies
his competence and willingness to
serve on the appropriations com
mittee.

Jo Brown
Jo Brown ia a candidate for one
of the positions of the Appropria
tions Committee. Jo has worked for
the past year as Treasurer of Al
pha Gamma Delta, therefore, she
has had a great deal of experience
in working with a budget and the
allocation of funds. If elected, Jo
plans to see that a copy of the
Budget ia published in the Clutter
so that the Student Body may
know exactly how the money of the
Student Activities Fund is spent.
Also, Jo would be willing to serve
on any sub committee of the Ap
propriations Committee. Jo is now
serving in the capacity of Second
Vice-President of Alpha Gamma
Delta, she has served as Vice-
President of the Spanish Club and
she has been active in intramural
sports and other phases of campus
activities. Your support in the
coming SGA election would be
greatly appreciated.

Nancy Smith
Hi! I am Nancy Smith, a junior
from Atlanta. Georgia, and I am a
candidate for the Appropriations
Committee. The activities in which
I have participated at Mercer range
from membership on the Student
Government , Association. SNEA
and Ciceronean Literary Society
to the Cauldron staff. Through
these activities I have gained much
valuable experience in working
with student groups.
As treasurer of my class for
three years in high school and as
a present member of the Appropri
ations Committee I have learned
the importance of organized stu
dent funds. I believe that this ex-
perience in particular will qualify
me to meet the requirements of
holding membership on the Ap
propriations Committee for a sec
ond term. Serving as Social Service
and Ritualistic chairman of Phi Mu
Fraternity, and as editor of the
yearbook, a representative to Girls’
State, and president of the Anchor
Club in high school provided me
with further leadership opportun
ities.
As a member of the student Ap
propriations Committee I will con
tinue to willinglly cooperate with
both the students and administra
tion in improving all facilities avail
able to them. I have enjoyed and
appreciated the opportunity of
working on our Student Govern
ment Association, and with your
support. I hope to serve you again

DORM REPRESENTATIVE
Marty Leverett
A candidate for town repre
sentative, Marty Leverett is i
native Maconite, graduate of I
local high school, and an employee
of the Joseph N. Neel Company
On campus. Marty maintains a
good scholastic average, and
active in many extra curricular
activities. He is a member of Kap
pa Alpha Order, in which he has
held several offices.
Marty Leverett campaigns
the pledge that if elected, he will
provide better representation for
Macon student. He believes that
town students want a stronger voice
in SGA affairs.

Robby Kelly
My name is Robby Kelly. For
those of you who have not met me,
I am a candidate for the office
of Student Senate. I am a Fresh
man from Monticello, Georgia
would appreciate the opportunity
to serve you and would do to the
best of my ability to represent you,
the student.
I was active in high school and
community affairs at home. I was
Vice President of my Junior Class
and was assistant business man
ager of the school yearbook. I also
attended Boys’ State during the
summer after my junior year. I
participated in three varsity sports
and have had experience in public
speaking and drama. But my most
important qualifications is en
thusiasm. I would like to see the
student government become an in
tegral part of Mercer University
rather than a mere organization.
I would like to see it become a
shaping influence in Mercer policy
and will do everything is my power
to strenghten it. Your help in this
endeavor will be appreciated.

Rick Davison
Rick Davison, now chairman of
the Mercer University Student
Union recreation committee, is a
candidate for the S.G.A. office of
dorm representative. He is well
acquainted with the workings of
student government and has the
practical experience that should be
required of a student government
office-holder. He was a member of
his high school student council for
four years, sec.-trees, of his Key
Club, treasurer of his junior class,
member of the yearbook staff, cap
tain of the football team, and
battalion commander in his
RO.T.C. class.

I am Dori Ripley, a sophomore
at Mercer, and am urgently soli

Representative. In Fort Pierce.
Fla., I attended Dan McCarty
High School and was President of
the Senior Class as well as an of
ficer of the class each preceding
year. This signifies a qualification
of leaderthip. At Mercer, I am
presently serving as President of
the Freshman Dorm Council and
am therefore a member of W.S.G.A.
and serve on the Judiciary Com
mittee. This signifies a qualifica
tion of experience. I would like to
see more students involved and
concerned with SGA activities, and
as Dorm Representative it would
be my duty to see that each girl in
the dorm knew of the happenings
in SGA, which I will do if elected.

Claudette Wells
Claudette Wells, a junior sociolo
gy major from Sylvania, Georgia,
is one of the candidates for the Ap
propriations Committee. Claudette
was a member of the Student Coun
cil for two years in her high school
and has always been interested in
student government and its func
tions. Recently she helped conduct
the student faculty evaluation
Rtudy, a project suggested and sup
ported by Student Government
Claudette is very active in cam
pus and community organizations
and activities. She is a member of
the Student Union Board. She has
served as pledge trainer and rush
chairman of Mercer Independent
Coed Association and secretary of
the Independent Council. Also,
Claudette is secretary of Mercer
Choir and of the student chapter
of the American Guild of Organists,
and is a member of the Mercer
Chamber Singers. A former state
Music Chairman, she is presently
serving as state President of Young
Woman's Auxiliary and has been
Mercer YWA President the past
year. She was also a member of the
BSU e*»*utive council and pro
gram chairman of the Christian
Service Fellowship.
Claudette promises to work very
hard for you as one of the five-
member Appropriations Committee
in making the new Student Govern
ment one of Mercer's best.

Yale-Harvard-Columbia Summer
Studies Program. As a member of
Alpha Delta Pi sorority, I have
served as Rush Chairman, Second
Vice-President, and, presently, as
First Vice-President and Pledge
Trainer.
Since 1 have been at Mercer, our
Student Government Association
has improved greatly, both in its
communication with the students
and in its concern for and action
on student opinion. As a student.
I appreciate the SGA's present
mode of thought and action. As a
candidate. I would like to have a
part in making our student govern
ment even more effective. I have
several ideas on ways for accom
plishing this goal. I would like to
see the students represented on the
University Disciplinary Committee.
