I would like to introduce Buddy

outstanding and consciencious stu

Five years ago, when 1 was a
Freshman in high school, I became
interested in the functions and ac
tivities of student government. I
wos elected to serve on my school's
Student Council. I remained a
member of this leadership organi
zation for four years, the last of
which I held the office of Treas-
My high school was small; there
fore our jobs and responsibilities as
members of the
Student Council
were rather lim
ited. However,
in my Senior
year, 1966-1967
our school was
elected as Presi-
dent of the
Georgia A s s o-
ciation Stu-
dent Councils. This important state
office brought many obligations and
responsibilities for each Sudent
Council member. We attended
leadership clinics and workshops
and executive committee meetings.
We worked on state and local pro
jects, both money making and ser
vice.
Through membership in the Stu
dent Council and by holding other
offices in lay high school, I learned
the importance of being a person
on whom fellow students and ad
uits can depend.
I have no mimeographed list of
outstanding deeds and accomplish
ments to present to you. My quali
fications for the position of dorm
representative are simply my past
experience and my desire to work
for the students of Mercer Univer
sity. If elected, I will do my beet
to be an honest, hardworking rep
resentative.

committee that

Freshman class.
I will assume
the responsibili

am qualified to
do this because
of my experience in high school,
which includes:
1 Secretary of F.T.A.
2. Secretary of a service dub

3. Two years on the Student

With these qualifications I feel
capable of representing you on the
Appropriations Committee. Your
support would be greatly appre

With the coming of spring so
comes u fresh crop of student faces
seeking a political birth on the Mer
est campus. Among these faces this
spring mine will also appear, and
like so many others written all over
it will be aspirations fo relection to
the Appropriations Committee. Un
like a national statement of candi-

I've got the
equipment — to
7* handle the job.
I've got a strong
desire—to serve Mercer through
our sophomore class as secretary.
However, the combination of
these qualities is not enough. A
candidate for any office should
have the basic qualifications of
experience. I feel that I have
gained this experience by serving
secretary of my high school
Student Council and as president
of my pledge class here at Mer
cer. I hope that you will consider
my qualifications and decide to

Seemingly a candidate can never
divorce himself from qualifications.
Presently 1 am a member of the
Student Union Board here at Mer
cer. 1 live in Kentucky and have
traveled extensively including a-
broad. I have attended a total of
six different senior and junior high
schools. I have also served as presi
dent of the student council in jun
ior high school while achieving
many other positions on commit
tee and in various clubs in each
high school. If given the opportuni
ty I will put these to work with the
responsibility a candidate must
have.
As an institution Mercer Univer
sity has much to he preserved- in
the way of a good and effective stu
dent government. Student govern
ment is a vital part of the life of
any campus. I would like nothing
better than to become a real part
of a working team to serve this
campus. And so it is with the ad
vent of spring I hardily seek your
support in the up-<-oming student
elections for Curtis L. Echols on
the Appropriations Committee.

Dear Students,
Hi! My name is Isabella Smith,
better known on campus as Ixzie.
As a sophomore at Mercer, 1 am a

the SGA Being familiar with the
duties of this office, having former

SGA as a whole.
It is not feasible for one candi
