"Sins of the Fleshapoids"-"Scorpio Rissing" Attacks
Underground Movie Audiences From Two Sides
By JOHNNY TURNER
Good old 314 is really getting
a workout the « days. Wednesday
night a full audience got it socked
to 'em by two films that ranged
from sheer hilarity to dead
seriousness.
Sins Of The Fleshapoids is a
love story set in a future land
where humans Indulge themselves
in all sorts of erotic pleasures. The
love story however, centers on two
robots called Fleshapoids who have
over the centuries squired human
senses through a weird type of evo
lution. The Fleshapoids rebel, de
stroy their human masters, and
start aU over again.
The whole movie is one very
large put on of science fiction and
Hollywood in general. As director
Mike Kuchar puts it: ‘To sum up
The Sins of the Fleshapoids Is my
most dearest dedication to the com
mercial movies, or, to put it another
way, it is a joke that cost me a
thousand dollars.”
Scorpio Rising, in contrast, is not
a joke, rather it is a dead serious
investigation of the much romanti
cized motorcycle gang. The film
begins innocently by flashing shots
nf a member of the gang working
on his machine. The music con
sists of old tunes like “Fools Rush
In,” “My Boy Friend’s Back,” and
“Blue Velvet.”
The audience laughed when the
film showed the members of the
gang putting on their leather jac
kets, chains, boots, rings, and other
necessary articles because the
music being played was Bobby Vin
ton’s “Blue Velvet” and Elvis

Under the Experiment’s program
each Ambassador is assigned to a

after a few days of orientation, he
will spend one month living with a

intimate living, he sees the country

It is not mere chance that the

"The Thin Man"
By DEBRA ROGERS
In this day of super cool detec
tives like Steve McQueen’, “Bullit”,
and Paul Newman’s “Harper”, it
is interesting to go back to their
origins; that is the origin of the
screen detectives, the super cool
ones.
William Powell created on the
screen in 1934, Nick Charles or as
he was more commonly known,
“Hie Thin Man”. From this suave,
witty, sophisticated detective of 35
years ago, today’s synical, super
cool ones developed.
Sure, things hate changed -In the
last 35 years, but what was great
then is at least good now. It may
be in bad taste to say the “mood of
this murder mystery is essentially
one of gaity and wit”, but if Lite
rary Digest could say it in 1934. I
can say even more today. “The
Thin Man” is hilariously “super
cool”; that is if you like detective
stories, and who doesn’t?

"Jules and Jim"
By LOCHLYN KENNEDY
JULES AND JIM, a film in the
Fine Art Series, will be shown in
the Student Center on Wednesday,
January 29, at 8:30 pm.
In this film, Jules, a German, and
Jim, who is French, meet and be
come good friends. They share
common Interests, and soon, a com
mon love. For twenty years, they
are in love with the same woman.
After a three-sided courtship, she
marries one of them. They soon
drift apart, however, and the other
one returns to renew his love. Soon,
this marriage falls apart, too.
There is a dramatic and heart
breaking climax which combines
with the deep pasion seen through
out the entire picture to mane this
a film worth seeing.
