Orioles take series; comedy in clubhouse
By Sine Men
Well Sportstans. the Orioles did It. I
knew they had a great chance, but I
didn’t think they would run away with
it like they did. It all boiled down to
the pitching, and Baltimore pitchers
proved they

I'll tail you what I enjoyed more
than that last game, and that was the
post-game interview in the clubhouse
First. Reggie Jackson got me giggling
when he was inadvertantly sprayed in
the lace with champagne and had to
take ott his glasses during the
interview. Then, after finally gening
President Reagan on the phone, it
seemed like everyone ‘n the locker-
room wanted to talk to hi n. I stopped
counting when the phone passed to
the sixth person, arvi after almost
fifteen minutes had expired on this
usually trivial task, I had visions ol
a Russian invasion as Ronnie talked
sincerely about the Orioles winning
strategy. But Rick Dempsey, the MVP
and future Secretary of State, made
me feet betler when he told Reagan to
tell the Russians tnat we were sure
having a great time playing baseball
over here In the United States.
II you weren't laughing by now. you
were after the phone was passed to
Baltimore manager Joe Attobelli who.
with all the tact of James Watt, told
the President that he watched as
many of the former actor’s <Rd movies
as the busy baseball season would
allow I mean that’s almost as funny
as Earl Weaver's permanent, but
that’s another story.
The MVP of each league was
announced last weekend, and as
expected. Dale Murphy won the NL
honors, while Cal Ripkin edged out
teammate Eddie Murray in the AL.
See you in spring training.
In football last weekend, there were
only three upsets. New England
beating San Diego, Seattle surprising
the Raiders, and Green Bay edging
Washington. The final score of that

The fifth week of the Intramural

Kappa Alpha avenged an earlier kiss
to Sigma Nu by Palming a narrow
13-12 decision over the Snakes. In the

Packer-Redskin game was 48-47. and
it was one of the most exciting games
I’ve soon in awhile.
As far as the standings. Dallas is
still undefeated, though they play
their toughest challenger so far this
season this Sunday night when they
go against the Raiders. Some things I
am surprised to see: the Falcons
playing so terrible, the Saints playing
so good, the Chargers in last place, the
Steefers looking so Impressive, and
the Cotts lied lor second place.
There are some key matchups in
this week’s action though the game of
the week has to be the Cowboys vs.
the Raiders.
No one expected things to remain
status quo when Ray Perkins was
named to replace Bear Bryant as
Alabama's football coach. According
to Crimson Tide guard Mike
McQueen, "When It rained at
practice the other day. th« players
were kidding that Coach Bryant
wouldn't have stood for that. He'd
have said. 'Rain? What rain?’ and It
would have stopped.”
Quote for Ihe week: Kansas State
quarterback Ooug Bogue. on chang
ing his ma|or from voterinai/
medicine to petroleum geology said.
"I didn't want people to be calling me
at 4:00 In the morning saying. 'Fill Is
throwing up!’"
Miscellaneous: Only five teams In
the NFL have winning records on
Monday Night Football. They are Los
Angeles (Raiders). Miami, Pittsburgh.
Washington, and Oailas.
