A large c owd of colored people, and
about three hundred whites, attended a
colored tep'izing at the creek, just beyond
the Check Factory, Sunday evening. It
is estimated that about 8 000 or 4 000 were
present. Thirty-six persons were immersed,
and the pa-tor of the first colored Baptist
church had his bands full. It wks a bad
time for baptizing, judging from results, aa
there were three fights to enliven tbe occa
sion. A white man and a colored citizen
got into ■ row, and tbe former had bis face
badly beaten with a buggy whip. Both
parties were let out on a fifty dollar bond
after being arrested.
