f§! 0 i t X 1) From the Elizibetlitown Post. Robert Burns. Tile following lines were recited by Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, at the recent celebration of Burns’ birth-day in Boston : The mountains glitter in the snow, A thousand leagues asunder ; Yet here amid the banquet’s glow, I hear their voice of thunder ; Each giant’s ice-bound goblet clinks, A flowing stream is summoned, Wachusett to Ben Nevis drinks, Monadnock to Ben Lomond ! Though years have clipped the eagle's plume, That crowned the Chieftain’s bonnet, The snn still sees the heather bloom, The silver mists lie on it ; With tar tin kilt and philibeg, What stride was ever bolder, Than his that shewed the naked leg, Beneath the plaided shoulder ? The echo sleeps on Cheviot’s hills, That heard the bugles blowing, When down their t ides the crimson rills, With mingled blood were flowing, The hunts where gallant hearts’ were game, The slashing on the border— The raid that swoop'd with sword and flame, Give place to “law and order.” Not while the rocking steeples reel, With midnight tocsins ringing, Not while the crashing war-notes peal, God gets his poets singing ; The bird is silent in the night, Or shrieks a cry of warning, While fluttering round the beacon light, But liearhim greet the morning. The lark of Scotia’s morning sky, Whose voice may sing his praise ? With Heaven’s own sunlight in hi eye, He walked among the daisies ; , Till through the cloud of fortune’s wrong, He soared to fields of glory. But left his land her sweetest song, And earth her saddest story. ’Tisnot the forts the builder piles, That chain the earth together, The wedded crowns, the sister isles, Would laugh at such a tether, The kindlight thought, the throbbing words, That set the pulses beating, Are stronger than the myriad swords, Os mighty armies meeting. Thus while within the banquet glows, Without the wild winds whistle, We drink a tripple health—the Rose, The Shamrock and the Thistle ! Their blended hues shall never fade, Till war hath hushed his cannon— Close twined as Ocean-current-braid, The Thames, the Clyde, the Shannon ! 33 X* HAS changed his residence and office to the first lot be low Mrs. Reeves’ Boarding House, on the east side of the Railroad, nearly opposite the Freight Depot, where he may be found at all times ready to attend to calls, except when professionally engaged. YOU DESERVE CREDIT FOR YOUR DISOOVEH.TI PROFESSOR -Wood's Hair Restorative, is, no doubt, the most wonderful discovery of this age of progress, for it will restore, permanently, grey hair to itsorigiual color, co ver the head of the bald with a most luxuriant growth, re move atonce all dandruff and itching, cure all scrofula and other cutaneous eruptions, such as scald head, Ac. It will cure, as if by magic, nervous or periodical headache, make the hair soft, glossy and wavy, and preserve the color per fectly, and the hair from falling, to extreme old age. We could give the testimony of more than one hundred thousand to the truth of every word we have written. See circularand the following : The following is from a distinguished member of the med ical profession : St. Paul, January 1, 1855. Prof. O. J. Wood—Dear Sir : Unsolicited, Isend you this certificate : After being nearly bald for a long time, and having tried all the hair restoratives extant, and having no faith in any. 1 was induced on hearing of yours, to give it a trial. T placed myself in the hands of a barber, and had my head rubbed with a good stiff brush, and the restorative then applied, and well rubbed in, till the scalp was a glow. This I repeated every morning, and in three weeks the young hair appeared, and grew rapidly from August last, till the present time, and is now thick, black and strong soft and pleasant to the touch ; whereas, before it was harsh and wiry, what little there was of it, and that little was dis appearing very rapidly. I still use your restorative about twice a week, and shall soon have a good and peifect crop of liair. Now if I had read of these things, and who has not ? buthave not seen hitherto any case where any per son's liair was really benelitted by any of the hair tonics, Ac., of the day, and it really gives me pleasure to record the result of my experience. 1 have recommended your preparation to others, and it already has a large and gen eral sale throughout the Territory. The people’ here know its effects, and have confidence in it. The supply you sent us, as wholesale agents for the Territory, is nearly exhaust ed, and daily inquiries are made for it. You deserve credit foryour discovery ; and I, for one, return you my thanks for the benefit it has done me, for I certainly had despaired long ago of ever effecting any such result. Yours hastily, J W BOND Firm of Bond A Kellog, Druggist,St. Paul We annex a few certificates to corroborate our assertions: Carlisle, 111., June 27, 1853. I have used Prof. O J Wood’s hair restorative, and have admired its wonderful effect My hair was becoming, as 1 thought, permanently grey, hut by the use of the restora tive, it has resumed its original color, and I have no doubt permanently so. PI mercy to the afflicted, and the gratitude and high opin ion 1 entertain of DR. MOSELEY as a Surgeon aud Phy sician, I deem it my duty to mention the case of my wife, hoping at the same time that all persons similarly afflicted, may be benelitted by it. In the first part of this year, my wile had several smali lutnps make their appearance in her breast; they continued to increase in size, until the whole breast became a diseased mass, and very painful. I procured the best medical aid in the city of Rome, and notwithstanding the earnest and faithful attention of our most skillful physi cians, she continued to grow worse and worse, until they gave the case up as incurable, aud advised amputation. I was advised by many of my friends, to visit Dr. Moseley, of Griffin, Ga., which 1 did, and, astonishing as it may seem, he had her entirely cured toithin one month, and she is now in good health! I would advise all who are afflicted with Scirrhus, and Cancerous affections to visit the Doctor with out delay, as I am satisfied by experience and Qbservation, that he is the most skillful physician in theSouthem States, in the treatment of that horrible disease—cancer.
