Time to me this Tieth has Taught.
Time to me this truth has taught,
(’Tis a tratli that’s worth revealing,)
More offend from want of thought,
Than any want of feeling—
If advice we would convey,
• There’s a time we should convey It,
If we've but a word to say,
There’s a time in which t-o say it.
Oft unknowingly the tongue
Touches on a chord so aching,
That a word of accent wrong,
Pains the heart almost to breaking—
Many a tear of wounded pride,
Many a tear of human blindness,
Has been soo*hcd or turned aside,
By a quiet voice of kindness.
Many a beauteous Sower decays,
Though we tend it e’er so much—
Something secret in it preys,
Which no human aid can touch.
So in many a lovely breast,
Lies some canker grief concealed,
That if touched is more opprest—
Left unto itself is healed.
Choice of a Wife.
I ask not beauty—’tis a gleam,
That tints the morning sky,
I ask not learning—'tis a dream
That glides unheeded by.
I nek not wit—’tis a flash
That oft blinds reason’s eye :
I ask not gold—'tis glittering trash,
That causes many a sigh!
I ask good sense, a taste refined,
Candor with pleasure blended,
A feeling heart, a virtuous mind,
With charity attended.
A most singular phenomenon, says the
Sandusky, 0., Register, is now to be seen
around the docks in the a ter. Immence
numbers of wuite fish ast Fall were cleaned
on the docks, and the ffal and ‘thrown
into the Bay. The spawn ii.s ‘hatched,” and
now around the dock m y be seen mi.lions <>f
’ miniature white fish II- nr is a fact in the
breeding of fish which the knowing ones ought
to investigate, f< r, if fish can be clean, and, and
from the spawn hatching can be induced, wlmt
is the use of all rise rtific al arangements now
proposed to propagate fish?
Appearances.—Upon the subject of dress
and appearances, the Mew York i iin< s thus
remarks:
A coat that has the marks < f use upon it is
a recommendation to peopl of sense, and a
hat with too smooth a nap and too Inc h a lus
ter is a deroga ory c rcurnsiancc. The-best
coats in Brodvvay are on the backs* f penniless
fops, broken down merchant s clerks w.th ph
tiful salaries, and men that don’t, pay up. ihe
heaviest gold eh ins dangle from the so sos
gamblers and gentlemen ofvery limited means;
costly ornaments on the ladies indicate :o the
eyes that are well open, the lac of a sihy !ov< r
or husband cramped tor f-.nris. And when
a pretty woman goes by ,n a s it of plain and
neat apparel, it is a sing- that she as i’dr ex
pectations and a hnsb ml that <an si ow a
ballance iu his favor. F>r women are like
books, too much gilding makes men suspicions
that the binding is the most important point ”
Progress.—There is at present in oppera
tion near Boston, a jumping locomotive which
only touches the ground once in a mile It is
perfectly round, the machinery in the centre,
ana is coated externally with India rubber
So soon as the patent has been secured, its
proprietor supp >ses that thousands of them
will be seen “bobin’ around” the world, so
that to the Man in the Moon, the Earth will
look like a big cheese covered with ‘skippers.’
Who denies that this is really a “fast age?”

LET THE PUBLIC REAP!
F< mercy to the afflicted, and the gratitude and high opin
ion I entertain of DR. MOSELEY as a Surgeon and Phy
sician, I deem it my duty to mention the case of my wife,
hoping at the same time that all persons similarly afflicted!
may be benefitted by it. In the first part of this'year, my
wife had several small lumps make their appearance in her
breast; they continued to increase in size, until the whole
breast became a diseased mass, and very painful. I procured
the best medical aid in the city of Rome, and notwithstanding
the earnest and faithful attention of our most skillful physi
cians, she continued to grow worse and worse, until they j
gave the case up as incurable, and advised amputation. I j
was advised by many of my friends, to visit Dr. Moseley, of
Griffin, Ga., which I did, and, astonishing as it may seem,
he had her entirely cored within one month, and ahe is now
in good health! I would advise all who are afflicted with
Bcirrhus, and Cancerous affections to visit the Doctor with
out deiay, as 1 am satisfied by experience and observation
that he js the most skillful physician in the Southern States’
in the treatment ot that horrible disease cancer.

PROFESSOR Wood’s Hair Restorative, is, no doubt, the
most ■wonderful discovery of this age of progress, for it
will restore, permanently, grey hair to itsoriginal color, co
ver the head of the bald with a most luxuriant growth, re
move at once all dandruff and itching, cure all scrofula and
i other cutaneous eruptions, such as scald head, &o. It will
cure, as if by magic, nervous tu'periodioal headache, make
the hair soft, glossy and wavy, and preserve the color per
fectly, and the hair from falling, to extreme oid age.
We could give the testimony of more than one hundred
thousand to the truth of every word we have written. See
cimdarand the following :
T 1 ic following is from a distinguished member of the med
ical profession :
St. Paul, January 1, 1855.
Prof. 0. J. Wood—Dear Sir : Unsolicited, Isend you this
certificate: After being nearly bald for a long time, and
having tried all the hair restoratives extant, and having no
faith in any, I was induced <>n hearing of yours, to give it
a trial. 1 placed myself in the hands of a barber, and had
my head rubbed with a good stiff brush, and the restorative
then applied, and well rubbed in, till the scalp was a glow.
This 1 repeated every morning, Mid in three weeks the
young hair appeared, ar.d grew -rapidly from August last,
till the present time, and is now thick,’ black and strong—
soft and pleasant to the touch ; whereas, before it was harsh
and wiry, what little there was ot it, and that little wasdis
; appearing very rapidly. 1 still u.-e your restorative about
twice a week, and sin'll soon have a good and perfect crop
of hair. Now if 1 had read of these things, and who has
not? but have not seen hitherto any case where any per
son’s hair was really benefitted by any of the hair tonics,
Ac., of the day, and it really gives me pleasure to record
the result of my experience. I have recommended your
preparation to' others, and it already nas a large and gen
eral sale throughout the Territory. The people here know
its effects, and have confidence in it. The supply you sent
us, as wholesale agents for the Territory, is nearly exhaust
ed, and daily inquiries are made for it. You deserve credit
fervour discovery ; and I, for one, return you my thanks
for the benefit it has done me, for i certainly had despaired
long ago of ever effecting any such result.
Yours hastily, J W BOND
Firm of Bond & Kellog, Druggist, St. Paul
We annex a few certificates to corroborate our assertions:
Carlisle, 111., June 27, 1853.
I have used Prof. 0 J Wood's hair restorative, and have
admired its wonderful effect My hair was beeomiug, as I
thought, permanently grey, but by the use of the restora
tive, it has resumed its original color, and I have no doubt
permanently so. SYDNEY BI’EERE,

Prof Wood—Dear Sir : Having made trial of your Hair
■ Restorative, it gives me pleasure to say, that its effect has
■ been excellent in removing inflamation, dandruff, and a
constant tendencyto itching, with which I have been trou
bled from my childhood ; and has also restored my hair,
which was becoming grey, to its original color I have used
no other article, with any thing like the same pleasure or
profit Yours truly, J K BRAGG
