Some time ago there was a pro
tracted meeting being carried on in
a small town in Mississippi, and the
preacher in charge saw a woe-begone
dilapidated looking individual sit
ting back in the congregation; his
looks indicated that be was more in
need of a good, square weal than
anything else, but the preacher was |
only administering spiritual comfort,
not physical. Toe preacher went to
him and asked: “My friend, are
you a Christian,” and tbe d. c. an
swered, “No. I’m the editor of the
weekly paper in this town.” ‘Then

Star, a meeting was held at the
court house last Satur iny, to elect
delegates to the State emperence
Convention which is to convene in
Atlanta, next Thursday, the 10th
lust. As r. M. L. Y.%ie» was made
chairman of the meeting, and Col.
R. A. Massey, secretary. Rev. J. 8..
C. Quillian was called upon to ex.
plain tbe object of tbe meeting,
which he did in a very sow pertinent
remarks. A motion was made that
the Chair appoint four delegates and
four alternates to attend the conven
tion, when tbe following gentlemen

8. James, Dr. T. R. Whitley, Hou.
J P. Watabn and Col. J. M. Edge.
