SAD DROWNING.
| List Saturday evening several
i boys were in Mobbs’ mill pond, sev
‘ en miles south of here, bathing, and
j among them were three sons of a
j Mr. Bearden, a new comer in that
: neighborhood. The boys were about
13,15 and 17 years old, respectively,
The oldest attempted to swim across
the run of the creek at the head of
the pond, with the youngest on his
back, when, from some cause, both
sank m the channel, and were
drowned . The middle one of the
three attempted to rescue his broth
ers, but they seized him around the
neck and came near drowning him
too. When Le pot loose from the
drowning boye, before he coal I re
cover, they were already deaj. Their
father was in Douglasville attending
the Sunday school celebration, when
the sad news came to him of his sons*
death. The family have the sympa
thy of the entire community.
We me requested to return the
thanks of the Douglas County Sun
day School Association to Misses
Freddie Camp, Mattie Barnes, Lilia
Freeman and LuLi Phillips, and
Messrs. J. F. Freeman ami D. A.
Vansant, for the neat and tasteful
manner in which they decorated the i
stand last Saturday, and we take ’
great pleasure in taking this method
of doing so.
We noticed the pleasant counte
nances of Hon. F. M. Duncan aLd
his estimable lady in our town last
Saturday. There is not a better wo
man on earth than Mrs. Nanie Dun
can. We are always glad to see her
and Prof. Duncan. It is a benedic
tion.

nully and oih-sr good while trleiids of our
town will be remembered by the intelligent,
part of the colored people.
Our board of education has arranged our
puolic schools so that weoan suit ourselves.
They have given us three schools in town.
Now we can send to any one we want to.
This Is kind of the board of
education, to arrange everything convenient
to the patrons. The members of the board of
education of Paulding county are equal yas
kind as the board of Douglas County. The
made the public schools over there conven
ient W>r the colored people—as much so as they
did fur the whites. So I see that the school
oltlcer# of every county I teach In are trying
to make easy, convenient arrangements to
educate the colored people, which proves that
they are friends to them.
Respectfully,
Z. K. JonxsoN.
