WHISKEY MUST GO !! !
V
When we first took charge of the
Star we began a crusade against
whiskey, and we now have tbe ines
timable pleasure of announcing that
THE PEOPLE
have spoken at the ballot box, and
have sustained the position taken by
the Star, by a majority that was a
surprise to tbe most ardent advo
cates of the cause. In the map of
the State, published by the Constitu
tion some time since, Douglas alone
of alt tbe coun/i s in this part of the
State, was represented by a black
spot, showing her to be a liquor coun
ty. We then called on our people to
rise in their majesty, and like Lady
Macbeth, say
“OUT DAMNED SPOT”
and to the honor and pride of the
county, they have done so in unmis
takable terms.
Tbe day passed off, as far ms we
can learn, perfectly quiet, the utmost
good feeling prevailing among the
advocates of the two sides. While
on this subject we desire again to
say that in our opposition to wbis*
key, we have had no ill-will to those
who deal in it; on tbe other hand we
regard the three bar men of this place
and in fact all that we know in the
county, as gentlemen, and class them
as our friends, and our opposition
has been to tbe t-affie and not to tbe
men. Now we ehall see how the
predictions of the anti-probibition
ists will be fulfilled. Yes, we shall
see.
In another so'umn will be found
the official result of tbe election.
DEATH of MEW-J. R. SKINNER.
