Richard Field, railroad agent, hn« been ap
pointed Posmiwler at Bremen. Dr. Parker,
the former Postmaster, will probably return
to the active practice of medicine or travel in
some business.
Judge jEnaory Bpeer baa purchased from
Meesr* Miller <fc Bradj* of Atlant'*, the
fiiif gray horse which look at the fair the pre
mium offered for the beet combination sad

Utt fee price was |.500.
, Gen. Toombs’ condition is but
little changed 1 . He sleeps somewhat
better, and hi a appetite is slightly
improvedjbut bis brain ite,vtry much
affected.
Tuesday of last week Mr. and Mrs.
Sasn Ayers, of Terr. II county, had
born unto them a Vabe only six
inches in height. A silver dollar
placed on the head of the chi’d will
completely cover it. Every limb
Is well developed, and it nurses and
cries like any other infant. It seems
to be in perffd health, and promi
see to live a long lite.
About two weeks agu a nicely
dressed yooeg man registered at the
St. James hotel as “W. E. Wheeler,
Augusta, Ga.,” and claimed as bis
betfaeaa, that of selling ebeet music.
Nothing strange was thought of the
young man, and he seemed to be a
perfect gentleman. However, on the
third day after his arrival be sudden
ly left town—also left an unpaid bill
for three days board.
The night previous to the young
man’s sadden departure, Mr. Miles
Dobbins, who was stopping at the ho
tel, had bis pockets robbed of a tine
fUd watch and some money. His
pants were found the next morning
on the front veranda near bis window,
with all the pockets turned inside
out. Suspicion rests upon the young
man Wheeler, fiom Augusta, and we
hope onr Stale exchanges will pass
him around as a bad character. Mr.
Dobbins otters a reward of $25 lor
the return of the watch, which is de
scribed elsewhere in our columns.—

convinced that the affliction with
