NOVEMBER 12th ’885.
Julius L. Brown, Esq., the son of
hi* tath is writing a series ai articles
against prohibition in the Atlanta
Constitution. Julius doubtless ImB
a motive sciuating him, and is not
altogether doing it for the principle
of tti* thing- Chronicle.
Let those who ate seeking to save
our people from the curse of drunken
ness bear in mind that the first and
chief thing to ba done is to create a
sound public sentiment. Do that,
and all else follows. Without such
a sentiment, prohibitory statutes
wil 1 neither be long-lived nor respe
cted while they do exist.

The President’s proclamation fixes
November 26th, asthe day of nation
al thanksgiving. The tone of the
proclamation is to be highly com
mended. Among other things occur
these words:
“The American people have al
ways abundant cause to be thankful
to Almighty God, whose watchful
care and guiding hand hsye been
manifested in every stage eftheir na
tional life, guarding and protecting
■them in the hour of darkness and of
danger.
And let there also be on 1 he day
thus set apart a reunion of families,
sanctified and chastened by tender
memories and associations, and let
social intercourse of friends, with
pleasant reminiscences renew tIr e ties
ofaffection and strengthen the bonds
of kindly feeling, and us by no means
forget, while we give thanks and
enjoy the comforts which have
crowned our lives th-t truly grateful
hearts are inclined to dreds of chari
ty, and that kind and thoughtful re
membrance of the poor will double
the pleasures of our condition and
render our praise and thanksgiving
more, acceptable in the sight of the
Lord."
A Sover^ijri* Bain*.
On the 19th of Fehuaiy, 1861, I
fell from a railroad train in inoiion,
jintl was badly injured. By the mis
treatment, of physician* aho used
calomel to remove the hrtmed blood
from nay system instead of bleeding
me, I became the victim of blood poi
son. A few years alter misfortune
the poison in iny blood made its ap
pearance on my person, and I had
sixty-five sores on my Uft side, from
my neck to ray toes, of various size*,
from that of a dime to a silver dollar.
I was reduced in weight, from 16ft to
103 lbs. I suffered duiing all the
time from the inaction of ray liver
and the constipation of my bowels.
During all these years past, I have
been treated by doctors of the differ
ent systems ol medicine, with vaiied
success alternating between hope and
fear as to final results. Among them
all I found no permanent relief,
Early in January, 1885, despondent
and almost disheartened, I determin
ed to take a course of Swift’s Specific
which, much to my surprise and to
The astonishment of my friends, has
given ire more relief than all of the
remedies of all kinds which I have
taken in the past twenty-four years.
The mercury treatment left me cover
ed-with scars as bl> ck as my shoe.
Swift’s Specific caused them to seals
off, and my flesh became white and
clear, its natura* color, and the only
m.-.rk is a lit le brownish line around
the edges where th««e sor*s and scars
were. My liver is r.ow in fine condi
tion, my bowels acting like clock
work regularly every dav. My com
plexion is better, my blood clearer,
and iny whole system is in a better
condition than it has been since 1 was
hurt. I have been a citizen of this
part of Mississippi fortyfive years
pas’, and any citize nor public officer
of this county will confirm the state
ments 1 have marie in ref'erance to my
case.

No other article of human food has ever received such high, emphatic, and uni
versal endorsement from eminent chemists, physicians, scientists, and Boards of
Health all over the world.
Note—The above Diagram illustrates the comparative worth of various Baking
Powders, as shown by Chemical Analysis and experiments made by Prof. Sehedler.
A pound can of each powder was taken, the total leavening power or volume in
each can calculated, the result being as indicated. This practical test for worth by
Prof. Sehedler only proves what every observant consumer of the Royal Baking
Powder knows by practical experience, that, while it costs a few cents per pound
more than ordinary kinds, it is far more economical, and, besides, affords the advan
tage of better work. A single trial of the Royal Baking Powder will convince any
fair-minded person of these facts.
* While the diagram shows some of the alum, powders to he of a higher degree
of strength than other powders ranked below them, it is not to be taken as indicat
ing that they have any value. All alum powders, no matter how high their strength,
•re to be avoided aa dangerous.
