I We have had control of the Star
for twelve months and have brought j
it from a half sheet to an eight page.
We will continue to mak" improve
ments, our subscript! n list is large
ly increased*
We had a pleasant call yesterday
from Dr. Curry, of Hiram, who show
ed his appreciation of the Star by j
paying up all arrears and more than I
a year in advance. This fact alone ,
gives some idea of his merits. Such i
men are always welcome in our office. 1

All the live houses in our town are
go’ng to have advertisements in our
columns. Look out for them. This
shows the healthy condition of our
town. i
The selfishness that rules a man in
his personal matters will exhibit it-,
self in his inter-denominational inter
course. The ugly snake will use its
fangs whenever an object comes with
in striking distance.
Did you ever notice that the very
sin or weakness to which you are se- j
crctly inclined is the one you most i
severely condemn in another? Here
is a profitable psychological study for
somebody who will read this para
graph.
We call the especial attention of
our readers to the advertisement of
Theo. 11. Ivie, which you can find at I
the head of our local column. Mr. ,
Ivie is one. of the best Photographers
in the Gate City and we . commend
him to our readers as x a responsible
and good workman. When you visit I
Atlanta be sure you give him a call.
The'old weather prophets were ac
cuatnmed to predict alate, cold spring
when Easter Sunday came lath-. Thia
year Easter come at as late a day as
possible. Iftbereis any truth in
the old notions late frosts will be
sure to kill the crops in the spring
of 1886.
Last Saturday there were many
people ami wagons from the country
h tie city. l 4 he severe wither has
kept tfa m back For neafn two weeks
and they Are just, banning to coffin
out. The wheels of the wagons give
evidence of very muddy roads, and
those who pass over them say it is
hard work. From conversation with
the farmers we learn that there is yet
a good deal of cotton unmarketed on
account of low prices.
[ ' 11 WigHll look through the col-
Stab you will find an
from Geo. W. Scott
of the Gossypium ,
Phospho. This guano is well known 1
to our readers and need no comment
from us. Capt. Bowen, of this place,
will supply you with any amount you
want.
An exchange says: “Douglasville
is surely broke. We cannot find but
one advertisement in the Star from
a business house.”
You are mistaken brother Hartley,
our merchants are doing a good bus
iness and are amply able to continue
their business for the next decade.
. You will find our columns full of
“ads.” from our merchants in a few
weeks. We will let you know when
our town breaks.
We have given one column of Ibis

our yoU' g people. Call to see us and
we will give you the particulars.
I We have a large paper now and a
full supply of new type and can pub
lish all the county news. Send it in;
never mind about the gramraer and
spelling. All we want is the news.
