At a meeting of the county Demo
cratic Executixe Committee of Doug
las county held in the Court House
on Tuesday May 4th, it was resolved
and orden d that a primary election
be held in each militia district for
one delegate to the Senatorial Con
vention from each district. That
said election be held on 4th Satur
day in May at 10 o’clock a. m.
Polls to close at 3 p. m.
Each of said delegates shall be en
titled to cast one eighth of the en
tire vote of the county in said Sena
torial Convention.
Resolved teat this committee deem
it unwise and inexpedient to nomi
nate candidates for county officers
and House of Representatives.
Resolved that the Democratic par
ty assemble in convention on Thurs
day, July22id to select delegates to
the Gubernational and Congression
al Conventions.

I would if I could, bring happiness, peace, joy I
and comfort to all the people in this land. In
this county my relatives lives a great many of
them de ul rest under the sod, among them the
remains of my brother who fell in the Virginia
army, in the grave will be found the body of
imy father to whom I was a dutiful son, and a j
i better father to his children never lived, and in :
ino mans Imsom a better heart ever beat, but while
he may have h.ad faults, it afforus me much
pie wmre to day to say lie never; in life gave hi s
children bad advice; and while he is gone, his
name is still fresh in the minds of the people of
■ the counties of Douglas anti Campbell, and I
I feet when I meet his friends in either of those i
i counties, although some of them are verging j
• near to the grave, that as you have in time past'
; been the fr.end of my father, you are my friend;
I because if a mau was my father s friend iu his
I life time, my devotion to him makes me your
i friend whether I have ever spoken to yon are not.
. One thing more binds me closer to Douglas j
. county than any other spot on earth. In its i
i graveyard it safely keeps and holds my only ;
I boy. Those of you who have lost your only son i
I can see my interest in this county, and twside* i
' these; there are others so numerous that 1 have j
! not time to speak of them to day.
i And now my fellow citisens, if 1 shall have j
the fortune to have the confidence of the people
l of this Senatorial district and they select me as
• their candidate, and lam elected* it will not
i only be my duty to look in all things to your
highest and best interest, l-ut it will afford me ;
