PlIAEIC SCHOOL DISCUSSION.
The citizens of Douglasville will
soon be confronted with the question:
Shall we have a public school system
free tuition to every boda fide citizen
of the place for 8 months during the”
year?
This is the question. It means a
heavier population to Douglasville, in- j law of the'-State,and the State being of
creased taxation, better schools, more j itself to some extent sovereign in its
pupils in school, and a general activity j nature* it needed no declaration hut

Some will doubtless argue that it
is unjust for one man’s property tet be!
taxed to educate the children of oth
ers. This is a very common objection
to the free school system. ; And at
first sight it does appear unjust. But
did you ever think how unjust it was 1

for the support of public jails, ’ court
houses, courts, public bridges and otli-

and convenience of the populace. The
injustice of the one is as apparent as,
in the other. If it is not unjust for a
man’s property to be taxed in propor

The most serious part of the ques

The matter is worthy of much

The Bill to repeal the county court

the Senate, and is now being consider

Bill to incorporate the Douglasville
Banking Co., was withdrawn on last
Monday by Him. John P. Watson
and re-introduced by him. The ne
cessity of withdrawing was caused on
account of the bill having by miscount
been introduced one . day too soon.
The law requires that the title to lo
cal hills shall be published 30 days be
fore they are introduced in the House,
and this bill being introduced on the
29 day from its public ation, was com

Resolution introduced by Mr. Wat
son to cause the State Librarian to
furnish the Supreme court reports for
the Ordonary of Douglas county, has
been withdrawn. The State Librarian

The BUI introduced by Senator
James, of this district, to add Douglas

circuit is now being considered bv the
General Judiciary committee; fof the
Senate. We are informed that there
is hut little chance for this bill to pass
unless there is a compromise inadeji
Newton arid Rockdale counties want
to come in the circuit and Senator
Wapd, of DeKalb, has introduced a

If Joe James had supported me for,
the offices that I run for before the

have fallen in the well last Sunday.
That was a judgment sent on turn for
the way lie treated me. But I reckon
old Boh, the horse, thought that the
judgment was using him badly. From
what I can find out there was a regu
lar stampede around the horse in the
well. Joe said take him out, and
Dessa fivied and .Foe talked, and his
wife flew around mighty fast and call

town with ropes, polls, planks, : sticks,

some by the legs and some tried ropes,
and others pulled the .hair arid mane

PROPRIETARY MEDICINE.
A visit to l)r. Green’s Laboratory,
I at Woodbury, N. J., has considerably
(.changed our vi'bws, and especially, our
j prejudices in regard to what, are gen
erally known as “Standard Patent
j Medicines.” Qf course we are getting
to that age i n life when we are forced
to conclude Life itself is a humbug,
and naturally distrust anything that
has not withstood long and tried ex
periences. Being a physician I had
the curiosity to know how such a sale
of two medical preparations could be
sustained for so many years. The per
fect system upon which the business
is conducted, and the pharmaceutical
i arrangements for the manufacture of
the two recipes with which we were
. made acquainted, are sufficiently con
vincing to us that the August Flower
* for Dispepsia and Liver Complaints,
and Boschee’s German Syrup, , for
Throat and Lung Troubles, were for
the complaints they are recommended,
most excellent remedies, and only re
gret that in much of our practice, med
ical ethics prevent'us from prescribing
them without making the formulas
public. When we were shown the
great quantity of voluntary letters
having been forwarded Dr. Green,
from all parts of the country, and from
all classes of people, lawyers, ministers,
and doctors, giving a description of
their ailments, -testimonials of their
’cures, etc., I feel like endorsing Dr.
Green’s suggestion that the Govern

and license them for general use by
giving them protection to the invent-
