The cashier of a Chinese bank tried
to leave with the funds for Japan or
some place, on the American plan,
but it is not believed that the ' custom
will become popular. The government
walled up the cashier in a ceil to star
ve to death, and chopped the heads off
all his family. And next fall they are
going to decapitate everybody in. the
empire bearing his name.
A Chinaman took the prize for Eng

The Richmond and Danville rail

Stivers, rector of the Episcopal Church

Dr. Edward Knox of Green Mary,
Tenn., angry at his fourteen-year-old
son; who had disobeyed him,stripped
him ,tied him and whipped him with
a blacksnake whip until ho became
unconscious, and at the pleading of
his mother was ’taken .down. The
lad died the next morning,and the
father has fled. The mother is al

Mr.G.W.McCormick of Thomas villa
surprised a few days ago, the pastors

by enclosing to each one a warrantee
deed to a house and lot in the city

Phrohibitionist or a Republican?’
The man answered that to a .certain
extent he was both - He : said he be
lieved in prohibition, but always vot
ed the straight Republican ticket
“Git out” shouted the farmer. “I’ve

wagon, an’ I couldn’t trust you to

Jefferson Davis has written a letter
of .consideraDle length in reply to Gen
eral Wolesly’s paper on General Lee,
. and while net disparaging Lee in the
least, he shows up in some very, vig
orous English, the ’ inaccuracies and
ignorance of Wolesley in reference to
the Southern confederacy and its lead
ers. The letter is a very strong one

The Hawkinsville Dispatch reports
that a very remarkable invention or
I discovery has been made by Mr. Joe
Reynolds, of Hawkinsville. He has
now at work in the river at that place,
a self-revolving dip-net, and it not on
ly dips up the fish, but puts them in a
basket suspended under the net/ The
net revolves day and night, and occa
sionally a fine red-horse, or bream, or
shad, or other fish, is dipped out of
the stream, and slides gently into the
basket,.
