inhered near the bridge, lining it, to seethe
[nticipated figiit. Wc were not disappointed.
md nearer they arproaclied, the proud
‘awing combatants. Bashan never produced
* brutes of tiercel- aspect. They lashed
|h<*ir sides with their tails, they tore the ground
ith their feet. Occasionally they kneeled
\ u. trying to gore the earth with their

Light. It seemed an even match Now one
mid press back his opponent a lew paces,
laud presently you would hear quick, sharp,
rt steps, and his adversary would bepres-
back in return. The struggling was
lard, wtvs long, was savage. For a while nei-
I tlier obtained an advantage.
Hitherto they had been pushing each other
nigthwise of the bridge : suddenly they be-

leach other crosswise. They were at right au-

shook, and creaked, anil rocked again, with
I tln-ir tramping and their strife, ft was the
' work of a single moment: one of the beasts—
1 never could tell which—one of them, bow
er, as if conscious of his position, made a

| a here was but another step of plank behind
him—between him and nothing ! The mo
ment was one of intense interest to us juvenile
ctators. Never was the ampithcatre of
Rome the scene of a more exciting combat.—
Another step backward ; yes, the unfortunate
bull has been forced to take it! Back lie is
pressed, and over he goes !
Such a sight I never saw—I proliably shall
never see again. Imaginee a bull pitched
backward over abridge, and falling at least
thirty feet, over and over ! He turned once
twice, probably : 1 thought he turned fifty
limes, there seemed such a confusion of horns
and led revolving firing through the air.—
But dawn ]’,<• went; the water was deep, and
lie disappeared, leaving a whirlpool of foam
Mijjnfi him, and making the river undulate
d wide with the concussion of his pon
derous bulk.
The other hull did not laugh—merely be-
ausc hulls, as 1 supposed, could not. But
laughed and shouted our applause. There
stood the victor, looking directly down into
the abyss below, into which be had hurled
ii$ unlucky foe. He stood, however, but a
moment; and then, as if frightened at the
prospect, lie liegan to snort and step backward
lack, Ine k he retreated, with his head in the
siiiii pugnacious attitude ns when in combat -
hark -still another step back—and over he,
went on the opposite sideof the bridge,
|ierfonning just as many and as ludicrous
oinersets as his adversary had done a minute
In-fore.
li was a scene to remember; and the perfor
mance called forth immense applause frem the
nip of juvenile ameteiir# who witnessed it.

Let me call your attention to the hook entitled “The Mod
ern Art of Training Wild Horses, by J. S. Rarey,” the
celeliftited Horse Tamer. Let me lay before you that
which is most necessary in your business ; let me have
an opportunity to circulate amongst you. that which is
gold io all mankind. You can take the most vicious, wild
and ill-disposed horse that, can be produced, and in from
twenty-five minutes to an hour, you can make him be-
nio perfectly kind and submissive. He shall lie down*
and you can lie down upon him; yon can walk over him*
handle all his limbs, you can make him sit up and sub
mit to the same without the use of any medicine what
ever. What the Bonk teaches to d 0 an v man may do,
that has a rational mind, without endangering either
himself or horse. ,\n balking, kicking, and runaway-
horses, may be made perfectly tame, and love to work,
by this mode of treatment, and if the people of thevicim
tv feel in the least interested, they wilt not pass it bv sav
ing. it is a bore, or the work itself is a humbug.
Any person, after searching a ropy of this valuable
and following the instructions in every particular, and
becomes dissatisfied, I am authorised to say, can have
his money returned. If any information is desired after

Washington, D. C., 7 Feb., 1856. /
Sir: I have used your Pills in my general and hospital
practice ever since yon made them, and cannot hesijate tc
say they are the best cathartic we employ. Tlieir regu
lating action on the liver Is quirk aud decided, consequent
ly they are an admirable remedy for derangements of that
organ. Indeed, I have seldom found a case of bilious dis
ease so obstinate that it did not readily yield to them.

PoslOffice, Hartland, Liv. Co., Mien., Nov. 16, 1856,
Dr. Ater: Yonr Pills are the perfection of medicine.
They have done my wife more good than I can tell you.
She had been sick and pining away for months. Went
off to be doctored at great expense, but got no better. She
then commenced taking yonr Pills, which soon cured hey,
by expelling large quantities of worms (dead) from her
body. They afterwards cured her and our two children
of bloody dysentery. One of our neighbors had it bad, and
my wife cored him with two doses of your Pills, while
others aronnd us paid item five to twenty dollars doctors'
bills, and lost much time, without being cured entirely
even then. Such a medicine as yours, which is actually
good and honest, will be prized here.

known, and I can confidently recommend them to my
friends. Yours, J. V. IIIMES.

Dear Sir : I am using your Cathartic Pills in my prac

AVe need not speak to the public of its viitms.
Throughout every town, and almost every lmndt t of the
American States, its womletful cures of pulmonary com
plaints liavo made it already known. Nay, few are the
families in any civilized country on this continent with
out some personal experience of its effects: and fewer yet
the communities any where which have not among them
some living trophy of its victory over the subtle and dan
gerous diseases of tbe throat and lungs. While it is the
most powerful antidote yet known to man for the formi
dable and dangerous diseases of the pulmonary organs, it
is also the pleasantest aiul safest remedy that can he em
ployed for infants and young persons. Parents should
have it in store against the insidious enemy that steals
upon them unprepared. M c have abundant grounds to
believe the Cherry Pectoral saves more lives by the con
sumptions it prevents than those it cures. Keep it by
you, and cure your colds while they are curable, nor neg
lect them until no human skill can master tbe inexorable
canker that, fastened on tin* vitals, eats your life away.
All know the dreadful fatality of lung disorders, and as
they know too tlie virtues of this remedy, we need not do
more than to assure them it is still made tlie l»e>»t it can
be. We spare no cost, no care, no toil to produce it the
most perfect possible, and thus afford those who rely <>u
it the best agent which our skill can furnish for their cure.
