Brock Maness, 77, died
Wednesday, March 11, 2009,
at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville, following
a brief illness.
Born in Banks County on May
24, 1931, she was the daughter
of the late Condus and Mandy
Vine Maxwell Brock. She was
a member of Mountain View
Baptist Church and enjoyed
flower gardening and crocheting.
She was employed with Carwood
Manufacturing for several years
and also served as a cook for
several local restaurants. Mrs.
Maness preceded in death by a
son, Alton Maness; and several
brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her husband,
Edison Maness, Cornelia; daugh
ters and son-in-law, Betty Ann
and Phillip Gaines, Mt. Airy,
Janet Maness, Demorest; sons
and daughters-in-law, Everett
and Beth Maness, Dahlonega,
Amiel and Kathy Maness,
Lexington, S.C., and Jimmy and
Sandra Maness, Clarkesville;

Daniel Sorrells
MADISON COUNTY -
Daniel Jackson Sorrells, died
Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
He was the son of Rufus J.
and Rosa
M. Daniel.
His mother
passed away
shortly after
his birth and
from age
six, he was
raised by
his father
and his new
mother,
Emma Sue Coile Sorrells, who
was a caring and kind mother for
her lifetime.
He grew up near Danielsville,
graduated from Madison County
High School, and attended the
University of Georgia as a com
muter student, graduating in 1933
with a B.A. degree in English and
in 1939 with a M.A. degree also
in English. He received an Ed.D.
from Michigan State University
in 1950 in counseling and col
lege administration. He served as
a personnel officer in the Army
Air Corps in the United States
and Japan during World War II,
including training the Tuskegee
Airmen. He spent two years as
an advisor to the Minister of
Education in Thailand.
He spent his whole life as an
educator first in high schools in
North Georgia including Atlanta
Public Schools and later in loca
tions around the world. His col
lege teaching positions includ
ed the College of William and
Mary, Michigan State University,
Central Michigan, University and
the University of Georgia. Some
years later, he joined the staff of
the Institute of Higher Education
as a professor to initiate and
organize a degree to develop col
lege administrators. He retired in
1981 as a Professor Emeritus of
Higher Education.
He was a lifelong Presbyterian,
serving as a youth group leader,
deacon and elder of the First
Presbyterian Church of Athens.
He was one of the founding
members of the Athens Torch
Club and a member of the Athens
Rotary Club serving as president
in 1981.
Survivors include his wife,
Eleanor Kathryn; son, Steven
Jackson; daughters and sons-
in-law, Peggy Sue and Steven
Juergens, Kristeen Sorrells
and Ernest Windsor, and Dr.
Kathryn Sorrells; grandchildren.
Christopher and Maryn Juergens;
sister, Mary Davis; and a number
of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, March 14, at First
Presbyterian Church. Burial was
in the family plot cemetery in
Danielsville. Pallbearers were
Carl Bergman, Ronnie Harris,
Steven Juergens, Carl Schab,
Don Seerley and Ernest Windsor.

Louise Tatum, 84, died Tuesday,
March 10, 2009.
Born in Gainesville, she was
the daughter of the late Styles
and Leola Buffington. She and
her husband moved to Jefferson
prior to 1948, where he worked
at the Jefferson Mills. She grew
up in the Lebanon Methodist
Church in Gainesville and was
a member of Galilee Christian
Church in Jefferson. She was a
well-known cook, an avid gar
dener, and a devoted mother and
grandmother, loved ones stated.
Mrs. Tatum was preceded in
death by her husband, Carl V.
Tatum; sister, Mattie Lee Arnold;
four brothers; and an additional
sister.
Survivors include sons,
Douglas R. Tatum, Watkinsville,
Terry M. Tatum, Commerce,
Carl Randall Tatum, Jefferson,
and Rick Tatum, Athens; three
daughters-in-law; six grandchil
dren; nine great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.

Hobbs and
Annie Laura
Lambert.
She was a
Registered
Nurse who
spent 40
years of
her life car
ing for and |
nursing the
sick throughout the southeast.
Survivors include her loving
husband of 53 years, Norman
S. Wojcik Sr.; sons, Gregory
Wojcik and Norman Wojcik Jr.,
both of Gainesville; daughter,
Donna Ernst, Buford, daugh
ter and son-in-law, Cathy and
Kenneth Everett, Hoschton;
grandchildren. Heather and
Lauren Everett, Hoschton, and
Christopher Ernst, Winder.
Graveside services were held
Sunday, February 8, at Grey Hill
Cemetery in Commerce with the
Rev. Mac Palmer officiating.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens,
was in charge of arrangements.
