81, died Thursday, March 12, at
his residence.
He was the son of the late
Orville Baker and Stella Mae
Hooper. Mr. Baker was preceded
in death by his wife, Evelyn
Leachman Baker; step-mother,
Cora Lee Baker; sister, Modell
Sorrows; brothers, Horace,
Shirley and Alford Baker.
Survivors include children,
Bill Baker, Athens, Danny

Jerry Baker, both of Maysville,

Beverly Balthazor
COMMERCE - Beverly
Joan Balthazor, 82, died Lriday,
March 13, 2009, at St. Mary’s
Hospice House in Athens.
Born in Kankakee, Ill., she
was the daughter of the late
Lialas (Berger) and Harvey Coy.
She was a life-long member of
the United Methodist Church
of Momence, Commerce, and
finally in Athens. She gradu
ated from the nursing program at
Presbyterian (St. Luke’s) Hospital
in Chicago, Ill., and worked as
registered nurse throughout her
life. Her last position was with
the Heritage Nursing Home in
Athens. She loved to play piano
and sang in the church choir
most of her life. She loved her
family most of all, loved ones
added.
Survivors include children,
Susan and Marvin Mason, Jack
and Prances Balthazor and Ron
and Jane (Hudson) Balthazor;
grandchildren, Thomas and
Aimee Ballentine, Scott and
Andrea Mason, Christopher and
Angelia Balthazor, Katherine
Hudson, Daniel Balthazor and
Cara Mason; and great-grand
children, Robert Ballentine,
Nicholas Ballentine, Jonathan
Ballentine and Myles Balthazor;
sisters and brothers-in-law,
Burdell and Tom Marcotte and
Jerry and Nelson Ritsema.
The family will receive friends
at Little-Ward Luneral Home
Thursday, March 19, at 5 p.m.
A memorial service will follow
at the funeral home chapel at 7
p.m.

his retirement and was co-owner

Cain served in the Navy during
World War II. He loved to spend
his summers in Highlands, N.C.,

was a veteran,
having served in

Army during World War II. Mr.
Holliday was preceded in death
by his first wife of 42 years, Irma
Rodgers Holliday.

She was preceded in death by
husbands, D.C. Leachman and
A.R. "Babe" Etheridge.
Survivors include daughters
and son-in-law, Patty Brown,
Hoschton, Peggy and Joe Reed,
Gainesville; grandson, Alex J.
Brown, Buford; brother and sis-
ter-in-law. Bill and Vicki Davis,
Canton, Bobby and Barbara
Davis, Ron and Crissie Brooks,
all of Buford; sisters-in-law,
Carolyn Bagley, Hurtsboro,
Ala., and Nettie Ruth Robinson,
Roswell.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, March 15, at Hamilton
Mill Memorial Chapel. Burial
was in Broadlawn Memorial
Gardens.

Brain Tumor Research.

Frances Lewis
Frances Thompson Lewis, 83,
born in Jefferson, died Saturday,
March 7, 2009.
She was a loving wife, mother
and grandmother, loved ones
stated. Mrs. Lewis was preceded
in death by her loving husband
of 59 years, C.M. Lewis Jr.; and
a son, Charles Lewis.
Survivors include a son and
daughter-in-law, Gerald and
Debbie Lewis; daughter and
son-in-law, Lourie and Leslie
Willard; five grandchildren; five
