Comer man arrested for evasion, other charges
Woman reports rape
A Comer man was arrested
last week after evading sher
iff’s deputies.
Randall Eugene Parham,
41, 3545 Hwy. 98 East, was
charged with possession of
marijuana, two counts of
obstruction of an officer, two
counts of fleeing or evading
police or roadblock, expired
or no driver’s license and driv
ing without a license.
According to the inci
dent report, Lt. Donald
Carr received information
that Parham’s green Ford
Excursion was traveling east-
bound on Fred Goss Road, and
as Carr and Deputy Michael
Moore approached 940 Fred
Goss Road, Parham allegedly
crossed the westbound lane
in front of Moore’s patrol car
and drove at a high rate of
speed up the driveway and
the patrol cars with lights and
sirens went up the drive behind
him. Parham then turned the
Excursion up an embankment
and drove through a garden
plot before exiting the vehi
cle at a wooded fence line
to escape law enforcement.
A passenger in the vehicle
confirmed that Parham was
the driver and a wrecker ser
vice was called to remove the
vehicle.
Parham was arrested the

following day on outstanding
warrants.
Others arrested by law
enforcement officials in the
county included:
•Jason Brandon Bray, 35,
100 Pearwood Road, Royston,
five counts of burglary, four
counts of theft by taking and
four counts of criminal dam
age to property.
•Fredrick Antonio Appling,
41, 580 Farm Road, Comer,
probation violation (original
charge: no license, etc.) and
theft by receiving stolen prop
erty.
•Christopher Whynn Austin,
35, 2417 Neese Diamond Hill
Road, Hull, contempt war
rant.
•Troy Michael Capped,
42, 3277 Morris Hill Road,
Colbert, obstruction of an
officer, driving while license
withdrawn, giving false infor
mation or false name, loud
radio or tape player audible
100 feet and two counts of
probation violation (original
charges: seatbelt, suspended
license, fleeing, VGCSA sale

degree and theft by taking.

open container in vehicle and
DUI.

withdrawn.

Man gets 10 years
probation for identity fraud
A Danielsville man was recently sentenced to 10 years
probation in Madison County Superior Court for identity
fraud.
Manuel Ricardo Nunez, 38, was also sentenced to two
years probation for two counts of financial transaction
card fraud. He was also fined $1,040.
Other actions filed recently in the office of the Clerk of
Superior Court of Madison County include:
•Christopher John Schwartz, no age or address available,
was sentenced to 10 years probation on three counts of
theft by taking (reduced from burglary). He was also fined
$2,090.
•Ronald Steven Gillespie, 42, Myrtle Beach, S.C., was
sentenced to 10 years probation and an $850 fine for theft
by conversion.
Comer purchases police cars
The Comer City Council approved the purchase of two
police cars last week.
The total cost of the cars is $4,000. The vehicles will be
used as patrol cars.
A ladder truck is also being purchased by the Comer
Volunteer Fire Department but titled to the City of Comer.
The council approved a resolution last week, authorizing
the purchase of the truck.
The council discussed but took no action on a contract for
garbage services.

Crime and court policy
It is the policy of this newspaper to print the names of all
persons arrested and booked through the Madison County Jail.
No exceptions are made to that policy.
This newspaper also routinely publishes the names of those
involved in criminal court cases as those actions make their
way through the judicial system, including the final disposi
tion of the case when it is known.
We caution our readers, however, that an arrest is not a con
viction and an individual is presumed innocent under the law
until convicted of a crime for which he has been charged.

A woman was reported
ly raped near the intersec
tion of Woodale Drive and
Brownwood Drive Sunday
afternoon.
Deputy Michael Moore
responded to the scene and
as he turned into Woodale
Drive, he noticed a white
female walking who was cry
ing and upset. She reportedly
told Deputy Moore that she
had been raped. Moore trans
ported the victim to a safe
location and requested that
investigators meet with her.
No other information was
available as of press time.
In another incident last
week, someone reported a
burglary at a residence on
Hardman Morris Road.
According to the inci
dent report, Deputy Chad
Parr responded to the scene
where the victim told him
he returned home about 4
p.m. and discovered that a
TV, laptop and digital cam
era were missing. The victim
stated that the front door was
locked, but not deadbolted.
All three items were alleged
ly removed from the master
bedroom. A neighbor across
the road told Deputy Parr that
he saw a vehicle leave the
residence around noon and
turn onto Madison Avenue.
The vehicle was described as
a 90s model car, silver or tan
in color with tinted windows.

Sheriff s office offers security checks
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is now offering security
checks for homeowners who plan to be out of town.
According to Major Shawn Bums, chief deputy, residents can
come by the sheriff’s office and fill out a “request for security
check” form that lets deputies know they need to provide extra
patrol by their homes during a certain period of time. The
request will last for a period of 30 days from the time the form
is filled out, but the request may be extended by calling the
sheriff’s office at 706-795-6202, or by coming by the office at
1436 Hwy. 98 West.
