Danny Hambrick
BETHLEHEM Danny
Hambrick, 55, died Friday,
March 20, 2009, following inju
ries received in a car accident.
Born in Fulton County, he was
the son of the late Dewitt and
Lucille Payne Hambrick. He was
a devoted husband and father
who loved unconditionally. His
love for others surpassed his
earthly death as his parting gift
was to ensure the lives of three
others, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife,
Kathy Hambrick, Bethlehem;
sons and daughter -in-law,
Bradley and Jackie Brown, Kevin
Hambrick, all of Bethlehem,
Scott Hambrick, Gratis; daughter,
Lindsay Hambrick, Bethlehem;
son-in-law, Chris Adams; grand
children, Caden Adams and
Jamie Hambrick; and sister
Gloria Entrekin, Atlanta.
Funeral services were held
Friday, March 27, from Smith
Memory Chapel, with the Rev.
Donnie Pennington officiating.
The body was cremated after the
service.

PRICEVILLE, ALA. -
George Stewart Hutcherson, 83,
died Thursday,
March 19, 2009.
Born in
Madison County
on April 19,
1925, he was the son of the late
Jim and Hattie Hutcherson. He
was a member of the Wesley
Memorial United Methodist
Church, was a member of the
Rotary Club of Decatur, Ala.,
a Mason, and in retirement
worked with Meals on Wheels.
He was a veteran, having served
in the United States Army, was
Company First Sergeant in the
864th Engineering Battalion in
the Philippines and New Guinea.
He was an ardent outdoorsman
who loved gardening, fishing
and nature, loved ones added.
Mr. Hutcherson was preceded in
death by sons, David and John
Hutcherson; and brothers, John
Worley, Walton, Brawner and
Grady Hutcherson.
Survivors include his wife
of 64 years, Mildred Phillips
Hutcherson, Priceville, Ala.;
sons, Tim Hutcherson and Greg
Hutcherson, both of Decatur,
Ala.; two grandchildren; daugh-
ter-in-law, Faye Hutcherson,
Tulsa, Okla; sisters-in-law, Ruby
Hutcherson, Fort Lamar, and
Mary Hutcherson, Athens.

dent of Barrow County, she was

Washington and Alphie Wall
McDonald. Mrs. Owens was

a member of Calvary Baptist
Church. She was a retiree of H.
& H. Manufacturing Company
of Statham.

ATHENS - John David Parks,
71, died Saturday, March 28,
2009.
Born on September 27, 1917,
in Banks County, he was the
son of Ernest G. and Minnie D.
Parks. He came to Athens in 1938
as an employ
ee of Rodgers
Hosiery Mill
and later worked
with Normal
Hardware Company prior to
his ownership of Handy Variety
Hardware Company, retiring from
the hardware business in 1980.
He was a longtime member of the
Prince Avenue Baptist Church,
where he served as deacon, was
active in Sunday School, youth
programs and brotherhood, and
was church treasurer for many
years. Mr. Parks was a veter
an, having served in the United
States Army’s 29th Infantry
Division, from Normandy, France
to Julich, Germany. He served in
the four major battle campaigns
for Northern Europe and was the
recipient of the Bronze Star and
was twice awarded the Purple
Heart for combat wounds. He
was a contributor to the construc
tion of the Purple Heart Memorial
at Athens Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of
69 years, Marcus Brewer Parks;
daughter and son-in-law. Dr.

Purdue III, 68, died Saturday,
March 28, 2009, at St. Mary's
Hospice House.
Born on September 28, 1940,
in Wrens, he was the son of
the late Lee Roy and Nelle B.
Perdue. He graduated from Wrens
High School and
attended DeKalb
College, Georgia
State University,
and gradu
ated cum laude from Mercer
University College of Pharmacy.
He worked as a pharmacist
around the Atlanta and Athens
areas, worked briefly at Horton
Homes, and raised cattle. Mr.
Perdue was a veteran, having
served in the United States Army
537th Engineer Company, 30th
Battalion Topographical Survey
Unit Fort Belvoir, Va., from
March 1962-April 1964. He was
a member of ARP Presbyterian
Church in Wrens. He was a lov
ing son, husband, and enjoyed
being with his family, loved ones
stated. Mr. Perdue was preceded
in death by a nephew, Timothy
Evans.
Survivors include his wife
of 45 years, Janice R. Perdue,
Commerce; sister, Frances P.
Evans, Richardson, Texas; and
nephew, Gary C. Evans, Flowers

Commerce, following a period of
declining health.
Born on January 18, 1931, in
Union County, he was the son
of Ralph Henry and Floy Neal
Totherow. He was employed with
the U.S. Postal Service for a
brief period of time; afterwards
he worked with Rogers Brothers
Construction and Connie's
Wholesale
Flowers. In 1989
he opened 4 A
Auto Service,
which he oper
ated for a number of years. He
was a member of White Creek
Baptist Church, where he served
on the deacon board and was
a veteran having served in the
United States Air Force as a tail
gunner on the B52 bomber. Mr.
Totherow was preceded in death
by his first wife, Doris Hulsey
Totherow; children, David
Totherow, Felicia Totherow and
Ruth Totherow; sisters, Pauline
Payne and Elda Davis; and a
brother, Charles Totherow.
Survivors include his wife,
Norma Totherow, Cleveland; sons
and daughter-in-law, Ralph and

John Verner
BRASELTON John S.
Verner, 55, died Wednesday,
March 25, 2009.
He was the son of the late
Howard and Annette Verner and
worked in sales for an office sup
ply company. He served in the
Naval Air Reserve.
Survivors include brothers and
sister-in-law, William G. and
Blanca Verner, Johns Creek, and
David H. Verner,
Gainesville;
aunts, Millie M.
Moore, Johns
Creek, and
Selma M. Cheeley, Buford; and
numerous nieces, nephews, and
great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, March 29, at Crowell
Brothers Peachtree Chapel. Burial
was at Peachtree Memorial Park.

Mathey Wilson
GILLSVILLE Mathey
R. Wilson, 71, died Tuesday,
March 24, 2009, at the Northeast
Georgia Medical Center follow
ing an extended illness.
Born on June 14, 1937, in
Laurinburge, N.C., she was the
daughter of the late James and
Cartha Skipper Brehm. She
worked as a lunchroom lady for
the Hall County school system
and was a member of Harmony
Hall Baptist Church. Mrs. Wilson
was preceded in death by her
husband, Horace Wilson; and a
daughter, Patricia Turlington.
Survivors include sons, John
Turlington and Glenn Turlington,
both of St. Pauls, N.C., and
William Stratton, Lula; daugh
ters, Dahlia Atkins, Lula, Shyla
Curtin, Gillsville; brothers,
Sam Brehm, Hope Mills, N.C.,
Johnny Brehm, Rock Fish, N.C.,
and Leslie Brehm, Hope Mills,
N.C.; sisters, Clara Hair, Linden,
N.C., Lois Terry, Parton, N.C.,
and Irene Bostic, Hope Mills,
N.C.; nine grandchildren; and
five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Friday, March 27, at Harmony
Hall Baptist Church with the Rev.
John Kinsey officiating. Burial
was in Gillsville Baptist Church
cemetery.
Ward's Funeral Home,
Gainesville, was in charge of
arrangements.
