J. Ben Hardman is caught by a tag at home plate Monday in Madison County’s
8-4 victory over Clarke Central. Ben Munro/staff

but didn’t need them with Ethan Seagraves
on the mound.
The right-hander worked through the
Wildcat lineup with ease, pitching six shut
out innings, striking out seven and allowing
just two hits.
Griffeth praised Seagraves’ start, noting
the senior's improvement. "He deserved to
have a good outing," Griffeth said.
Seagraves proved doubly effective against
the Wildcats, also driving home three runs to
help his own cause.
Offensively, Madison County did most of
its damage in the first three innings, building
a 7-0 lead. The Raiders added another insur
ance score in the sixth.
In addition to Seagraves" handiwork at the
plate, Matthew Robinson drove home two
mns, and Ben Morris, Seth Fleming and
Dustin Roberts each collected an RBI as
Madison County routed another region foe.
Things were more interesting a day earlier.
Madison County scored eight unanswered
mns in the last four innings Monday night to
beat Clarke Central in Athens.
The Raiders trailed 4-0 after three frames,
but stormed back with three mns in the
fourth, one in the fifth and four more in the
sixth to remain unbeaten in 8-AAAA play.
Roberts came on in relief of starter Jack
May in the fifth and worked three innings of
shutout relief for the win.
Bo Dalton and Robinson both homered
in the victory. Dalton drilled a two-mn shot
in the fourth inning that pulled Madison
County within one mn of Gladiators.
Robinson then tied the game in the fifth,
4-4, with a solo shot.
Madison County’s unblemished record in
region play appeared in jeopardy early on.
Clarke Central pushed a mn across the
plate in the second inning and padded the
lead with a three-run blast from starting
pitcher Bradley West in the third.
But Morris delivered a clutch two-out RBI
single in the fourth to get Madison County
on the scoreboard.
Dalton then tagged his two-mn homer
the very next at-bat, pulling the Raiders to
within 4-3.
Following Robinson's game-tying dinger
in the fifth, Bracken Turner executed a per
fect squeeze but with the bases loaded in the
sixth to bring home the Raiders' go-ahead
score.
Seagraves drew a bases-loaded walk to up
the lead to 6-4, and Matt Kennison followed
two batters later with a two-out, two-mn
double down the left field line.
Madison County won a wild one, 10-7,
in nine innings over Rockdale County five
days earlier.
Kennison clubbed a three-run homer in
the ninth and Dalton added a two-mn shot
two batters later as Madison County out
lasted Rockdale County March 25.
The Raiders trailed the Bulldogs 4-0 at
one point.
Rain
cont’d from page IB
celed, as was the boys’ annual golf tourna
ment, the Madison County Invitational on
Saturday.
Nineteen teams were lined up to play
at Double Oaks Golf Club before weather
wiped that event out.
The MCHS track teams were scheduled to
take part in a large event as well, the Gladiator
Invitational, before rain halted that Saturday
meet.
The MCHS students have been on spring
break since Monday, so the golf, soccer and
tennis teams have no events scheduled until
school resumes.
