MADISON CO. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS OFFER PLANTS FOR SALE
The Madison County High School Horticulture class will hold its annual bedding
plant sale at the school greenhouse Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 17,
from 3:30 to 5 p.m. each day. “We have several varieties to choose from in order
to get your yard looking great and offer both annuals and perennials,” organizers
said. Flats of 36 are $8 each. Hanging baskets are $7, Four-inch pots are $2 each
and bags of potting soil are $12 (supplies are limited for the soil). The greenhouse
is located behind the school off of Colbert-Danielsville Road. For more informa

MCHS class of ‘99
hosting reunion Aug. 8
The MCHS Class of ’99 will hold its 10-year
reunion, Saturday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m at Camp
Kiwanis in Danielsville.
Tickets are $35 per person.

Class of ‘94
to hold reunion
The Madison County High School Class
of 1994 will have its 15-year class reunion
May 16. All graduates interested in attending
can either email (mchsl994@gmail.com) or

Immunizations offered
at health department
The Madison County Health Department
reminds parents to make sure their children
receive all required immunizations for the
2009/10 school year.
Effective July 1, 2007, two new vaccines are
required: Pneumococcal Conjugate (PCV) for
daycare. Head start and preschool only and
hepatitis A, for all children bom after Jan. 1,
2006, officials noted.
Additional doses have also been added to two
existing vaccine requirements for all children
entering kindergarten, sixth grade or new entrants
(children of any age entering Georgia schools for
the first time or returning to Georgia schools after
being out of the system for a year). These are:
MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) - second
dose required or measles vaccine (two doses),
mumps vaccine (two doses) and rubella vaccine
(one dose) or serologic proof of immunity and
varicella (chickenpox) - second dose required
or healthcare provider documentation of disease
history or serologic proof of immunity.
The following is a complete list of
immunizations that are required for school
enrollment, according to the health department:
DTAP (diptheria, tetanus and pertussis)- four
to five doses; hepatitis B - three doses; polio -
three to four doses; MMR (measles, mumps and
rubella) - two doses; varicella (chickenpox) -
two doses; Hib (Haemophilus Influnzae Type b)
- three to four doses, for daycare and preschool
only; Pneumococcal Conjugate (PCV), for
daycare. Head Start and preschool only and
hepatitis A, for all children bom on or after Jan.
1,2006.
Children can receive up to five vaccines per
visit and dosage requirements vary by age.

The health department also offers hearing,
vision and dental screenings (Form 3300)
required by schools, as well as Immunizations
and Certificate 3231. Before coming to the health
department, please obtain immunization records
from your child’s pediatrician, and if not in
English, please have them translated, officials
said.
Data entry fees will apply if the information
has not been entered into the Georgia Registry
of Immunization Transactions and Services.
Payment methods accepted include Medicaid,
Peachcare, cash, or check, officials said. Insurance
will not be filed by the health department, officials

Hull Trike-A-Thon
fund-raiser
to benefit St. Jude
A “Trike-A-Thon” will be held Saturday,
April 18, from 10-11:30 a.m. at Hull-Sanford
Elementary School.
Any parent with a child/children wishing to
participate in the event may call coordinator
Deborah Garrett at 706-789-3116 or
co-coordinator Angie Bridges at 706-783-2161
to register.
Registration is free and bring your own trike
or other riding toy. A free coloring book and
stickers will be provided at registration. Also,
other free items will be provided for each
child’s sponsor donation of $35 or more. All
checks or money orders should be made out to
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Anyone wishing to donate to St. Jude’s
Children’s Research Hospital may drop it
off at the event or mail to Deborah Garrett at
2775 Friendship Church Road, Danielsville,
GA, 30633; or Angie Bridges at 2807 Roy
Woods Road, Comer, GA, 30629. All checks
and money orders need to be made out to
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Tax
deductible receipts are available.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is
the first institution established for the sole
purpose of conducting basic clinical research
into catastrophic childhood diseases, mainly
cancer, and is the largest childhood cancer
research center in the world in terms of
number of patients enrolled on research study
protocols and successfully treated.
St. Jude research in acute lymphoblastic
leukemia, Hodges disease, neuroblastoma
and other illnesses have already resulted in
new treatment procedures which are now
standard.
ALSAC, the fund-raising arm, covers all
costs not covered by insurance for medical
treatment rendered at St. Jude. Families with
out insurance are never asked to pay.

JONES IS TOP FUND-RAISER AT DES
Danielsville Elementary School fourth grader Mac Jones
received a congratulatory letter from the American
Heart Association for being the top fund-raiser in the
Jump Rope for Heart. She raised $700 in her fundraising
efforts. DES students raised $2,218 to help fight heart

recognized at Athens Tech
Madison County High School Choral Department excels
MCHS choral students traveled to Cumming
to participate in Large Group Performance
Evaluation sponsored by the Georgia Music
Educators Association.
For the second year in a row, both the
Advanced Women’s Chorus and the Select
Ensemble received the highest performance
rating of superior. Additionally, the Select
Ensemble was rated superior in sight-reading,
while the Advanced Women's Chorus earned a
rating of excellent. The MCHS Mixed Chorus in
its first appearance in the event posted respect
able ratings of good in performance and excel
lent in sight-reading.
“I was proud not only of the singers’ perfor
mances but also of their behavior,” said director
Dr. Shirley Dillard. ‘These are fabulous young
people who represented the county beautifully.”
