ILA RAISES MONEY FOR ST.
JUDE’S HOSPITAL
The fifth graders at Ila Elementary School
participated in the St. Jude’s Children’s
Research Math-A-Thon. They completed
math problems to help raise money for St.
Jude’s. Shanda Ginn’s math students set a
goal to raise $500. “They each worked hard
on their math problems, and the students
really surprised Mrs. Ginn by raising a
whopping $1110.36,” school officials said. “Ila
Elementary is very proud of these hard-work
ing math whizzes.”
FFA MEMBERS ATTEND
GREENHAND JAMBOREE
Members of the Madison County Freshman
Academy FFA chapter attended the Georgia
FFA Association’s Greenhand Jamboree
Feb. 27-28 at the Georgia FFA/FCCLA
Center. At the jamboree, FFA members dis
covered the Georgia FFA/FCCLA Center,
took part in an FFA quiz competition and
met with well over 500 FFA members from
across the state of Georgia. Those fresh
men academy FFA members attending the
conference included: (back row, L-R) Jessie

MCHS Class of
1959 plans reunion
The Madison County High
School Class of 1959 reunion is
planning its 50 th reunion on Aug.
29. Detailed information will be
sent out soon, organizers said.

MCHS class of ‘99
hosting reunion
Aug. 8
The MCHS Class of '99
will hold its 10-year reunion,
Saturday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m at
Camp Kiwanis in Danielsville.
Tickets are $35 per person.

Mentor program hosts Chamber coffee
The Madison County Mentor
Program hosted the Chamber
Coffee March 19 in memory
of Myrtis Gunnells, who passed
away in January of 2008.
Gunnells had been a part of the
mentor program since its begin
ning in 1998; she blessed the
lives of several mentee students
during those years.
Seven mentors who also
have been with the mentor pro
gram since it began were rec
ognized at the coffee: Melanie
Berryman, Nancy Bridges, Beth
Coker, Fern and Gerald Coutant,
Joyce Duncan, and Mirian Tiller.
Mentor Karen Harrison served
at the coffee, and mentors Leslie
Hardeman, Ryan Melton, and
Rachele Windham-Alexander
provided the musical entertain
ment. Several mentors present
gave testimonies about their
mentoring experiences: Melanie
Berryman, Fem Coutant, Gerald
Coutant, Wayne Douglas, Leslie
Hardeman, Karen Harrison,
Mitch McGhee, Brad Sikes and
Mirian Tiller.

The Madison County High
School Class of 1994 will have its
15-year class reunion May 16. All
graduates interested in attending

Ila Elementary
yard sale, craft
show and
moonwalk
Ila Elementary School Gators
will host a yard sale/craft show
and moonwalk for the kids ($5/
each) Saturday. May 2, from 8
a.m. - 2 p.m.
The event will feature home
goods, crafts, kids’ toys, clothing,
housewares and lots of other stuff,
organizers said.
There will also be a silent
auction for old wooden student
desks and old school furniture.
Other items available for
purchase will include doughnuts
and coffee, hot dogs for lunch and
various baked goods provided by
faculty and staff, organizers said.
Proceeds from the event will
go toward funding for student
technology equipment.

donating items or renting a table
($25/each) contact the school
at 706/789-3445 and ask for
Katrina Cook.
Kindergarten
students invited
for school visit
Children who will attend
kindergarten in Madison County
schools next year are invited to
bring their parents to visit the
school they will be attending for
an informational and fun visit
conducted by Carol Barnes, Parent
Involvement Coordinator.
Children and parents will
have the opportunity to visit all
kindergarten classrooms, the
computer lab, media center,
lunchroom, gym and other points
of interest, according to the press
release. Tours will conducted
according to following schedule:
Monday, April 27, Danielsville
Elementary; Tuesday, April 28,
Ila Elementary; Wednesday, April
29, Hull-Sanford Elementary;
Thursday, April 30, Comer
Elementary and Friday, May 1,
Colbert Elementary.
Visits will begin promptly at 9
a.m. and will last approximately
90 minutes. Parents with questions
