News from Madison County’s Over 50 Club
Betty Westbrook called the
April meeting of the Over Fifty
Club to order. There were 24
people in attendance, includ
ing 8 guests. Betty’s thought
for the day was “'How to Plant
Your Garden," taken from her
church’s newsletter. Plant three
rows of peas ( peace of mind,
heart and soul), four rows of
squash (squash gossip, indiffer
ence, grumbling and selfishness),
four rows of lettuce, (lettuce be
faithful, kind, patient, and love
one another) turnips (turnip for
meetings, service and to help one
another), Thyme (thyme for each
other, for family, and for friends).
Water with patience and cultivate
with love. There is much fruit in
your garden because you reap
what you sow.
Charles Jay led the group sing
ing their theme song, “This is
the Day." Happy birthday was
sung to Joyce Dillard, Faye Jay
and Chris Burroughs. Happy
anniversary was sung to Chris
Burroughs.

prayers for Faye Jay, Melanie
(Mary Ann’s granddaugh

Westbrook White (birth of a son
next week).
Cheryl Leuthner read the secre

Charles Jay suggested that
the club could sell plates with a
picture of Gordon's Chapel as a
fund raiser. We will wait until
later when the economy gets bet
ter. The group went to Callaway
Gardens April 14.
An entertaining program
was presented by the “Brain
Minders." They are a group from
the Madison County Pilot Club
and include Patsy Dudley (narra
tor), Betty Sartain, Betty Duncan,
Gail Edwards, Joyce Fleeman
and Dee Osborne. Dressed in
costume, Fiona Fox talked about
walking tips; Tulip Pig told about
bums, safety and fire; Gerald
Giraffe spoke about home safety;
Penny Panda talked about driv

with an Easter theme, includ

nobody had to bend over to pick
up. She had prepared a ham. Ann
Seagraves had ordered chicken.
There were many delicious side
dishes and desserts.
Our next meeting will be on
May 13, 2009. The hostesses will
be Betty Westbrook and Geri
