Carlton couple arrested for family violence
A Carlton couple was arrested
last week following a domestic
violence call to their home.
Rachael Lou Epps, 26, of 214
Osley Mill Road, was charged
with one count of battery, while
her live-in boyfriend, Mike
David Puleo, 28, of the same
address, was charged with bat
tery and aggravated assault
(bondsman off bond).
According to the incident
report, Deputy Gary Floyd went
to the scene where Puleo told
him his girlfriend “jumped on
him during an argument.” Epps
agreed that they got into a fight,
but she said that it happened in
the bathroom after she locked
herself in there during the argu
ment and Puleo kicked the door
in and pushed her down on the
floor. She fought with him as she
tried to get up. The deputy noted
scratches on both Puleo’s arms
and scratches on Epps’ right
hand. The altercation reportedly
took place in front of a 2-year old
child. Both parties were arrested
and the child was turned over to

Crime and court policy
It is the policy of this newspaper to
print the names of all persons arrest
ed and booked through the Madison
County Jail. No exceptions are made
to that policy.
This newspaper also routinely pub
lishes the names of those involved in
criminal court cases as those actions
make their way through the judicial
system, including the final disposi
tion of the case when it is known.
We caution our readers, however,
that an arrest is not a conviction
and an individual is presumed inno
cent under the law until convicted
of a crime for which he has been
charged.
In addition to arrest reports, we also
routinely publish items from incident
reports filed with local law enforce
ment agencies. Most of the time,
the names of those involved are not
published unless one party has been
officially charged with a crime.
Father, son arrested after
highway chase, melee
A Danielsville father and son were arrested last week after
calls came into the 911 center about a reckless driver on Hwy.
29 South.
James Vasco Watkins, 48,2819 Hwy. 98 West, was charged
with one count of battery, while his son, Donald Gaylord
Watkins, 18, of 2763 Hwy 98 West, was arrested on one
count of disorderly conduct.
According to the incident report, Watkins senior called the
911 center to report that his son, Donald, was driving reck
lessly at a high rate of speed with several juveniles in the back
of his truck.
The father and son had reportedly been arguing over the
son’s girlfriend, while the teen’s aunt and grandmother were
trying to break it up, the report stated.
“Apparently, the family was worried about Donald and
decided to chase him all over the county (in two cars) physi
cally trying to stop him while he was driving.. .(which) led to
a seriously dangerous situation,” the deputy noted.
A volunteer firefighter heard the incident over his radio and
picked up the chase, calling for the vehicles to stop over his
loudspeaker as he followed them.
Watkins senior and his sister-in-law (in separate cars) even
tually pulled in front of the teen near Diamond Hill Grocery
and forced him to pull over.
“That’s when all parties got out of their vehicles and began
to argue with each other,” the report stated. When one of
the juveniles who’d been in the bed of the truck tried to get
between father and son, Watkins senior allegedly struck him
and wrestled him to the ground.
Watkins junior allegedly became more and more agitated as
Deputy Kidd tried to interview everyone. When he refused to
calm down and stop cursing, he was arrested for disorderly
conduct.
Both men were taken to the Madison County Jail.
