GBI officer brings bomb robot to Rotary meeting
Standing with Trent Hillsman are Harry Rice, Tim
McCannon and Odis Graham.
Trent Hillsman, a Georgia Bureau of
Investigation officer and bomb squad
expert, brought one of the many bomb
robots that the GBI uses to the Rotary
Club of Madison County meeting
Friday.
Hillsman is originally from Madison
County and has recently moved back
here after working with the bomb squad
and drug squad in Douglas.
Hillsman said that before he had
children, he was the first to try to
dismantle the bomb at any site, but now
that he has a wife and two children, he
doesn’t volunteer to be first anymore.
Even so, there is much danger when
a person is working with explosives,
and that is why they employ a robot to
do much of the most dangerous work.
Hillsman and his robot were at
the bomb scene at Jackson County
High School not too long ago where
they talked down a student with a
detonator in his hand. But that’s not
so uncommon when you work with
bombs on a regular basis.
Although hearing about Hillsman
and his career working with bombs
was exciting for the members of this
club, trumping this was the drawing
for the winners of the tax raffle. After
rolling all the tickets around for a bit,
young Stephen Ginn drew the winning
tickets which were: fourth place for
$250 was Phil Munro; third place for
$500 was Athens Janitor; second for
$750 was Bob Anderson, and first place
for $10,000 was Chuck Adams.

Life.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled
overnight event that offers everyone
an opportunity to participate in the
fight against cancer, organizers said.
Teams of family members, friends,
co-workers and others join together
each year to raise funds for the
American Cancer Society and make
a difference in the community.
Teams believe in a world where no
one has to hear the words, “You have
cancer.’’ In honor of those who battle
cancer 24 hours a day, team members
typically take turns walking the track
throughout the day and night. For
those not walking, there is around
the clock action to keep everyone
busy. From entertainment, food
and games to touching ceremonies
and stories of inspiration, there is
something for everyone at Relay
For Life - comfort, fellowship, unity
and a place for reflection to all those
affected by cancer. “We hope for
the time when our loved ones will
not bear the physical, emotional and
financial burdens that come with
every cancer diagnosis,” officials
said. “Only together can we embrace
a cancer-free future ... a future with
One World, One Hope.”
